Is the Item called Dark Helm Bugged?

I picked up an item called a Dark Helm that was +20 magickal aptitude and -20 alignment. I wore it twice and then noticed that it had permanently increased my MA by 40, and permanently lowered my Align by 40. I got this item in the very first town off the magic chick by the bridge.

If I didn't want to play a more or less good character I'd probably just abuse this thing to get an MA of 100 at 3rd or 4th level.

Anyone else run into this thing?

I've had some weird experiences so far with bugs and this game so I don't know if it's just me.

 

Yes, that sounds like a bug to me. I also lost 4 speed when I got entangled, and it never came back.

 

Yep, that damned helm lowered my alignment by 100 and to think I was so happy what with every shop saying Im a great mage but when I look at my alignment Im 100 evil. =)

 

I have had the same problem, and I found out to late, it was only when my followers started complaining about my evil ways, I found out.......

Well at least I got 86 magicrating, though it does feel like cheating.
