Is it just me or is it way to easy to level up in the game. I mean usually i'm lvl 20 before i even get to the black mountain clan place.
I find it easy to level up as long as the PC is not a gunslinger, thief or pacifist. Killing things personaly is the quick way to EX points.
To me it seems that it goes in spurts. I seem to level up fairly quickly till around level 7 or so then it seems to slow down for several levels. If you're a warrior you will level up faster due to exp per strike. At least I think that's how it works. If you hitting level 20 by the BMC Mines, what quests are you completing on your way there? Are you jumping the storyline in order to get the better quests for the better loot and exp?
I like to get to the BMC about 17 -20, the IoD at 22. It isn't hard & if I need a few points there is always the ancient Temple or the Lair of Whathisnose, the Last Dragon.
Well after getting a decent gun(LGR or at least a hand cannon) levelling up becomes fairly easy for a gunslinger as well. You make all killings yourself before your followers even notice the poor target...
My gunslingers all seem to get in a few hits & then the target & friends come charging in to get eviscerated by the wrecking crew. if any are left alive, someone is always standing in the way of a clean shot. :akimbo:
It's very easy to hit 50 in this game, unless you don't do many sidequests or you let your followers do the killing. I suggest using the level 127 patch, which allows you to level after you've hit 50.
I'm not sure how that'll help the original poster in this thread, who was complaining about how easy it is to level, but hey.
Well if he hits 50 very early in the game (as i do) there's definatly a feeling that somethings missing... a lack of challenges or goals. Using the increased level cap would give him something to aspire to , but it would also make the game terribly easy.. I decided to simply slow down , no more sewer purging , long walks on the morbihan plains slaying orcs.. no more Kree invading.. no more Tarant crimefighting.. Darn i really feel like bashing stuff now.
I think the level-up is related to the game's difficulty the first time i played this game i set the difficulty on 'easy' and, after completing half of all the quests i finished the game at level40 when i started it again,i set it on 'moderate',and, after finishing almost all the quests,i finished the game at level42...
Canis: Having the level 127 mod makes it easy to change the exp tables You could make it 50% or 100% harder to level up, if you wanted. Difficulty levels also scale XP gained down a lot. If you really want a harder game, put it on hard, double the XP charts, turn random encounters off, and don't use melee, guns, harm, or molotov cheese to do damage. It's really only too easy if you powerlevel or milk liams spawn point or go out of your way to clear sewers. The main quest puts you at about 40 or so at endgame on easy, and any further character development is up to your exploration, which I think is about right.
You can edit xp_level.mes any time you wish, without installing the occasionally buggy and absurdly powergaming cap remover.
I use the cap remover out of principle, not because I want an absurdly high level character. I think my highest is my latest character who is at 60. Anyway, yes you can modify the charts at any time, but the mod puts them right out in the open so the average person can just open the file in notepad and do what they want, then close and fire up arcanum to see the changes.
If the average person has the sense to install a mod with WinZip and then modify the leveling rates with Notepad, then it shouldn't be too hard for the average person to get the file with one of the undat utilities. Just as a matter of principle, and of simplicity. ((BLAST YOU BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN!!! Damn Grammies....))
It was easier for me, as I really have no idea how to edit this game's files. Are you good with modifying of the game files? Perhaps you could help me in modifying the weapon files, as I'm interested in making a patch combining several of my favorite mods, mirroring the setup I have on my arcanum game: 1) Weapon balancing mod (Otto Kropp's) 2) Machined Plate Fix 3) New Follower Level Up schemes 4) New Portraits (actual good ones) 5) New backrounds 6) Removal of certain item attributes to eliminate penalties (Like the -4 Dex of the blackstone blade, or the bonus of the dark helm) 7) Change the way certain stats give bonuses (CN in particular) and remove the heal rate cap of 6 I'm not sure if all of it's possible, but I think it is except maybe 7. And any other suggestions people have. Ideas?
My hex editor and I have an on-again, off-again relationship which is at the moment decidedly "off". Yes I can edit weapon files to a certain extent but it's a very painful process. I don't know, maybe "painful" is normal when editing weapon prototypes, I'll have to ask around.... Do you think Virgil could do with a portrait of Brian Downey as Deputy Asst. Backup Courier turned Security Guard 4th Class Stanley H. Tweedle? From Lexx? Reminds me a bit of him. Oh it's late, my mind's wandering....
