No idea how good these forums are, or how on-topic they are, but I have a question (and hey, I'm new *waves*). Last night (or should I say in the we hours of the morning) I had a bit of a problem with Arcanum.... okay, so that's an understatement: It effectively killed my save-game, and my backup of the same save-game. THe problem is that every time I go to do anything, a "Are you sure you want to quit?" message window thingy pops up (which is a pain), but the worst is that once I attempt to go anywhere using the world map, upon reaching the destination (or a random encounter) the thing pops up one more time, and then closes the game completely no matter which option you choose. Anyone know what's goin' on or how to help it out?
1)Welcome to the forum! 2)You posted in the wrong section. Expect to see your thread moved into "Hints and Tips" 3)I had this problem too. Not sure what causes it, but nothing can be done about it. Try replaying from the previous save. P.S. Though some people told me that it isn't true, I'm still convinced that this problem only occurs if you play more than one character on the same comp and replace your old saves with new ones. As annoying as it is, I reinstall Arcanum on my computer every time I want to play a new character. This way the problem doesn't seem to occur.
I can't :-( I have a bugged Russian version of Arcanum, and I can only install patches released by the Fargus company
Ah, now I know why you use Solaris as your handlle. What other Lem books do you like? Are all the Rusian versions that bugged or is it just yours? Who is Fargus? And with english as fluent as yours, why not play in english?
1)Lem is one of my absolute favourites, though I haven't re-read him in a while. Last book of his that I've re-read was "Cyberiada", I believe, and "The manuscript found in the bathroom". But, of course, nothing can beat "Diaries of Ion the Quiet" 2)Fargus is one of the two major computer game distributor companies (the second one is called Buka). Though I live in Israel and not in Russia for the last 8 years, I usually buy computer CDs in the local Russian book stores, as they're almost twice cheaper there. 3)I do play in English most of the time (unless I can't get a non-translated version). The problem is that English and Russian versions usually come on the same CD's, and are probably adopted to accept Fargus patches only. At least, when I tried to download one of the patches to Arcanum, it acted as if I did not have the original CD installed.
