I heard that Arcanum actually runs faster with DX7 so I'd like to uninstall my DX8, install DX7 and check whether it works for me. Unfortunately DX is not listed in Add/Remove programs andit has way too many files to remove them manually while being unsure of the effect.

You can't uninstall DirectX. What you can do is edit the registry and make windows think you're running DX 6.1. That way you can install DX 7, effectively overwriting DX8. But if you screw up you're pretty much fucked and you'll have to reinstall windows.

There is a directX uninstaller around. Try sarching the net. The latest one can uninstall directX8. You definitely need a version of directX on your window because most game uses its dlls.

Nothing but slowdowns make me a desperate guy. I'm trying any 'solution' to the problem that I can find in Arcanum forums.

Then post this question too in a tech forum. I forgot the address. It's more of a Q&A. It's a great forum and found somethings I never know. Well, I'm not a techy so I don't know a lot of things.

You can't uninstall DirectX8!!!! It replaces core components and cannot be un-installed or replaced by another directx! You could do that with previous versions but not with 8 or 8a.

    Thanks for warning Vicsun.

BTW is it just my impression or is Microsoft taking freedom of choice from its customers yet again?

Well, no but I didn't check it before posting. Anyway where is the tech forum you mentioned. I remember you said that you don't remember the address but maybe you could tell me how the site where it's located is called.
