Hi everyone. I've just starting playing this game a ew days ago. It's interesting; a lot like a Dungeons and Dragons campaign.

Could anyone give me some advice or tips on how to defeat the ore golems in the Black Mountain Clan dungeon? I had to back out of the dungeon and go back to Tarant because the golems, about 15 levels higher than myself, were too difficult to fight. My character is a level 11 or 12 melee type with a little bit of persuasion and minor healing. I also have Virgil and Magnus in my party. Does anyone have a good strategy for figthing these things without having one's weapons break, or do I simply need to wait until I'm level 20 to do this quest? It seems rediculous that I should have to wait ten whole levels to advance on the next part of the story. help appriciated, thanks.

I'd say that you need to gain some more levels. I were at lv 35 when I did that quest. But you decide.

I killed the Ore Golems with ease there, I got myself a Looking glass Rifle and simply shot the golems, took me about 7-8 shots.

These are the best advices you can get from me.

Go do some side quests before. They aren't the easiest for a new player.

I've managed it as early as level 16 using Molotov cocktails and explosives. Lots of explosives.... And the followers using hammers.

I keep hearing that you're supposed to equip your party with gauntlets for the golems but I really didn't see any improvement over giving them hammers.

The problem with gauntlets is that instead of weapon damage you receive, like, actual bodily damage whenever you hit the golems. It's okay if you have machined gauntlets and virgil healing you, but it's something to watch out for.

In the unpatched game, you take no damage from Ore Golems when you punch them. No item damage, no physical damage. It's good.

In the unpatched game Tarant has an ATM with unlimited withdrawals. It sure was good back in the days when I played unpatched.

Yes he is. Who ever heard of an automated teller machine in 1888?

I'm refering to the bug in the Madam Lil quest that gives you unlimited cash off of that guy outside the Bridesdale.

Pfff, why get unlimited cash ? You'll be swimming in money anyway. (Tarant, mage district; using cursed things to get back your money after big "investments")

The way to set up the Tarant magic shop is to pickpocket the key off the guard in the magical smith store, then go into the back room and advance time to night so the evil shop mage goes to work. Now if you stand right up behind the chest near the Baleful Hound you can quickly disintergrate it without anyone else in the shop attacking you; Then cast unlocking cantrip on the chest at youe feet. Advance time to morning and stand in the corner of the room that puts you roughly the same distance from the 2 beds and cast unlocking cantrip on the other chest.

Now whenever you go to Tarant you can walk straight into the back of the magic shop and help yourself without even having to pick the locks.

You can do wonders at the mage shop using the aforementioned cursed items :)

And I vaguely remember this guy who told us (in a not so obvious manner) that the cheapest way to identify items is to put them into the mages' chest, and barter with the mages, then take them back from the chest.

Which is obviously so much easier than just learning Divine Magic yourself.

Yes, especially since divination is pretty much useless otherwise.

I think it's fairly cool though, for RP reasons if anything (seriously, checking the stats for every NPC in the game has it's charm). Had there only been traps posing any sort of threat in Arcanum, I've had my share of characters that were eligible for divination mastery.

I wonder what the Mastery quest is like, what with the Divination Master being the weirdest guy in Tulla and all?

I've done all the mastery tests, yet I can't remember what half of them were. Most of them are just an excuses for your followers to run ahead of you and beat a bunch of stuff to death. The conveyance one is one of the few I can think of that doesn't involve fighting, although that may have had something to do with the fact that I couldn't finish it and the fighting came later.

Well, I did it. I was around level 16. I had everyone in my party use spare weapons that I bought cheaply from the smithy in Tarant. I had to make a trip back for repairs once and it was still difficult(I had to fight them in turn based mode and I still had to reload often), but I did it. Pretty tough, but now I'm going back to Tarant to talk to Bates again.
