Hey everyone, i was wondering what you guys thought about a bowman build. Ive almost completed the game with a thief type character, right now the game is freakin out and askin me if im sure i want to quit..hopefully thats a temporary thing. Onto the real question though, what does everyone recommend for a bow type character. I was thinking tech-bow, but didnt know how much str was necessary for a pyrotechnic bow, if that is whats best for a tech bowman. I will max dex, bow, and dodge, and however much str it takes, probably int up to 19 or 20, than mech and pyro so i can make the bow, unless i can find the pyrotechnic bow somewhere, saving me much agony. Anyways, Ill take any advise on a bow character. Thanks in advance!
the problem with the wanna quit thing may be from not being patched from what I have heard on the forum. As for the bow I would use the fastest bow in the game (ellunyns (sp) in qintarra). You got a good handle on whats required with the other ideas you have. Welcome to the club, we'll be watching your posts as you progress as a bowperson! Parmanian welcomes you!
Ellumyns bow eh?? Would it be better to take the magic route than? I just managed to finish the game as a thief, tough but fun, liked the ending! Ill have to see exactly how ill play my next character i guess, gonna have to think about this a bit.
I just went through most of the game as a bowman- its ok butttt the selections of bows are horrible about the best you can get is ellums bow (23 speed 1-10 damage and +50% chance of hitting animals) With so many characters out there to choose form I wouldnt recommend being a bowman Oh and the problem with game asking do you wanna quit- yeah I had that to- sucks doesnt it???? no really the way to repair it is with the patch you can get that from this site in the downloads section. If you do decide to go through as a bowman be sure to let us know if it goes better for you then it did for me
The tech vs magick vs regular bows are fairly well-balanced. Ellumyns bow can be used by an uber-techie without any problems I know of. I believe it requires 10 Strength. There is only one NPC that has it that I know of, and don't expect to find him/her until extremely late in the game. SPOILERS: Pyrotechnic Bow Min Tech Levels Required: Explosives Technician + Mechanical Assistant Items Required to Make: Fire Obstruction + Compound Bow D:1-10, FT:2-5, FD:5-20, RNG:20, Wgt:5, Spd:8, MSR:10 Schematics are found in Black Mountain Mines Compound bow can be bought the first day you enter Tarant from the blacksmith. Otherwise you will have to purchase the Compound Bow schematic (not uncommon to buy), and find the required items (Boat Rigging is expensive and common to buy, but rare to find. Long Bow is extremely hard to find, especially in early-to-mid game. If you are able to create a number of Compound Bows, it may be worthwhile to make an Envenomed Bow.
Look at my post here: http://community.vugames.com/WebX?14@96 ... 6@.efb251d I have a tech archer thief, Halfling Raised by Orcs. He would make a good gunslinger for that mater. The sheer speed of Ellumyn's Bow is its advantage. And it gets extra strikes against animals, so it is the primary bow of my tech archer for world travel. Look for a build that adds DX or PE without sacrificing ST. Several give 1/4 point in bow. This is more than handy. Beat with an Ugly Stick is a good one as well.
Another quick question on bowmen...is PE necessary?? Wouldnt bow mastery alone be enough? Id rather not pump the points into it unless its completely worth it.
It's not necessary, but it's well worth it. As an experiment give Raven the Helm of Yzar's Cost which boosts PE by 4, and I'm sure you'll see a big difference. But as usual you can get through the game with a less and uber character. EDIT: Just remembered that the Helm gives a boost to bow skill as well. But it's still true that PE will make a difference.
Hmm, though its not worth it, if PE helps a bowman Id rather do it the right way, i just thought by reading the forums that bow mastery made it so range had no effect...same with throwing mastery, i could have misunderstood what was said though. A PE of 8 would seem nuts if it makes a difference, but the character i have planned uses almost every single point...didnt plan for PE lol.
Hints on finding long bows for tech bows: Supposedly the "Multi-Smith (Quality)" has a 70% chance of selling them each day and the Elven Trader 50%. They seem far rarer than that... Certain guards carry them. The elven bounty hunter and insectress hunters both carry them.
One last quick question, if i get the two charged rings for the +4 dex, will that make it so if i have 16, itll give me the 25 speed bonus when putting it up to 20, and does that also work for upping melee and dodge with the 18 dex req??
you got it................. BUT you gotta stay techy, I believe above 16-17 something like that. you get below and they turn into +1 You can also use agility of fire spell to get you +4 dex. Just pick more tech stuff to off set the spells! Parmanian
PE increases the TH of any ranged weapon user. Mage or tech, you should be aware of the Trapmakers Spectacles, + 2 each PE & DX. Dead neutral. Best tech PE booster is the Goggled Helmet, + 3 PE. You need to study smithy for it.
Ahhh, very awesome...I wont have any problems staying tech with this bowman...no problems at all actually, ill have to perhaps look into the trapmakers spectacles, where by chance to i manage a pair of this wonderous eye peice? This makes my idea even more appealing...
Daniel Somethingoranother, in Caladon is the disarm trap Master. The specs are the prize for the Master quest in his basement. No, you don't need to be a disarm trap Master candidate, you only need to get into his basement without starting a fight & walk every inch of his maze. Then he will give them to you. Bring your Flow Spectrometer. The Oiled Thieve's Leather will get you Apprentice training in spot trap, the Eve Gear, Janya's potions & a scroll of See Invisible / Spot Traps will get you Expert training. You will need them.
Gotcha, sounds like quite an ordeal, I may have to work on this nonetheless, my other idea is the +PE from smithy or mechanic, or goggled helmet, who knows, the options are plentiful!
