HELP! Stuck on the Isle of Despair

I think I broke my game. When I finished everything on the isle of despair, I went back and talked to Cpt. Teach but I broke the dialog off in the middle by clicking on a spell icon.

Every time I talk to him now, he just tells me if I ever need a captain he'd be more than happy to help me. There's now no way to get off this stupid island! I also don't have a previous savegame to go back to. Anybody able to help?

I tried downloading the dialog editor and undat utility, hoping I could maybe hack Teach's dialog, but I keep getting a "zlib.dll not found" error or sommat when I try to extract files from the .DAT. So... I'm stuck. My game was going so well, too. Please oh please oh please can somebody help me?

 

Sounds like you have two options.

1. Look through your inventory to see if you have a teleport scroll then use it.

2. Level up until you get enough CPs to get Teleport.

As far as I know it's the only way off the island once you get stuck.

 

Try a scroll of Exiting if you have one. It could work.

 

i was under the impression that teleportation would not work on the isle of despair. i also dont think that a scroll of exiting would get you off either. i might be wrong about the teleportation thing though, you could use the character editor to give your character teleport, get off, and then put everything back to where it was. i dont know if this would work though.

also, its a long shot, but if you killed teach, you might be able to use his boat to get back home. theres a possibility that the game designers would let you gain control of his boat if you do this on the isle of despair so that you wouldnt get stuck. thats a really long shot though.

 

Nah, I think you're right about the teleportation. I've tried using it on the Isle before and wasn't allowed to.

 

You can not teleport to/from the Isle of Despair. If you are stuck, just kill Teach and you can sail back to Ashbury yourself. However, you will never be able to "use" his ship anymore.

 

Afraid not. Teleport did not work, and I tried killing Teach hoping that would help but the helm of the Gypsy was still unusable. I was stuck.

So I went through a really complicated method, basically hacking Teach's script file to make him take me off the island every time I clicked on him. This involved unpacking and repacking the arcanum2.dat file (which took forever), but it WORKED and I got free at last. Then I just replaced the modified .dat file with the original and played on. All the while cursing Troika.

Ah well, I'm working on getting that ultimate blessing thing now and have just learned of the evil cursed dark elves book.

I also have a pretty cool maxed-out mage.

 

Ahh.. sorry. My mistake. Been a while since I have played Arcanum and I was under the impression that you could teleport off the isle, as long as you were in certain places (which I cannot remember) but there was no way to teleport onto the isle.

 

i checked and killing teach works 4 me.

hey yeah I had that prob some time ago too.

My fix was a easy1, I just loaded my last savegame before I talked to him

bummer...that sucks....I have been to the isle but just wondered if you could go back if you wanted to....thats one thing that bugs me...cant go to places ya wanna go if you want to

advancing time one day unjams any lock. it also relocks anything that you lockpicked.

I'm pretty sure you're allowed to travel back to The Isle of Despair after you buy your own ship.
