Please, please people, don't gravedig stupid topics. They are old. They have been discussed. Your opinions are not going to shed some new light onto the topics. They are only going to annoy people. As a little rule, if the topic is past the first page, it's old. If no one has posted in it for over 10 days, it's old. If the year does not say 2003, it's very fucking old. There are enough topics going on right now to entertain yourselves with, you don't need to dredge up old ones.

Well, in light of the recent gravedigging spree, I heartily agree, too. Wish there was a way of forcing people to read this once in a while...

I don't think it should be considered a "spree". It was just a couple of newbies who gravedug a post or two. It doesn't happen too often either.

I dont see why people freak out so much over 'gravedigging'. I mean if someone DOES have something to contribute to an old topic, why not coment? Though I suppose that if they want to talk about it that much they COULD start a new thread.

Like I said, it doesn't bother me. If the user has something half-way important to say it isn't all that bad. Sure, you'll annoy some people but, If you feel like it's important enough for us to hear, that's fine by me.

I guess it really depends on how often it's done, doesn't it? I know of one board where a poster decided it would be funny to bump up so many old threads that literally nothing would be left on the front page. After he did that, and the moderators removed all his bumps, they added a rule against gravedigging.

I'm one of the newbie recent offenders. I apologize again for breaking the rule. I think it would be a good idea if this was clearly stated in something that "sticks" (is that the right term?) like the "Before you post..." thread. It's actually in there down about 10 posts but I for one didn't come across it. I didn't even understand the term gravedigging until I searched on it (after my offense).

In contrast, I certainly picked up the norms about searching because they were front-loaded in such a clear way.

The forums where gravedigging is most annoying are General Discussion and Arcanum Hints and Tips. There is a sticky on GD detailing the rules, but not here - I agree, one of the mods shouls make one. And don't fret over that so much, blackfey. At least your digging added something to he topic. :)

If you really want a no-gravedigging sticky then the Mods could just nail this one up.

Other than that, we could just bump it up as soon as it sinks too low

Oh, sorry I haven't had my coffee yet. :???:

But maybe if we just talk about stupid stuff like this it'll stay at the top. Of course we'll have to tell the new posters only to read the first 3 posts, we would never want to encourage spam. If there was any more of it on these boards it would be awful. If we all got forks and lighters though we could roast it... That would be yummy! :)
