I think its just a quest item. Unlike Whysper's gem, it doesn't seem to have any magic inside.

I could have sworn that when I had Geoffrey as a follower, he would summon some really nasty creatures while he was holding the gem.

In this case I'm not leaving the gem to him ever. His summoned creatures only get in the way.

That is because he is a Necromage & uses the summons in the Necro chain. As for how nasty they are, have you seen combat last long enough for Geff's monsters to get in even one swing?

I havent used Geoffrey in a while. Most of my characters are good so they dont get the opportunity to pick him up. I know he has summon spells in the Darknecro collage, but I could have sworn he started summoning really powerful creatures at a low level when he had the gem in his inventory. I could be wrong though. Dont know magick all that well, nor do I care to...bleh...magick...

I always leave followers with their personal stuff. Magnus his braclet & book, Raven her love letter, Geffoery his gem. My evil PCs keep him around for his disapated air & snarky comments & usualy wish he would get serious in combat.

Around level 35 or so he becomes an asset in combat. Learns Fireflash or something else useful. I just get so tired of seeing him summon a zombie that never gets a swing in because we killed everything first when I know he has Harm in his inventory.

Seriously, the magic combat AI just SUCKS. Dante truly does it the best. Light up SoP & VoA, run away, come back & cast Major Heal all around when it is over. Another gripe is Raven's habit of puting aside her truly deadly bow & turning into useless jello. At least Z'an turns into rocks.

Dante is actually useful half the time. Who annoys me the most is Perriman Smythe and Jormund with their habit of rushing into melee when they can barely hold the sword by the right end.

That's why I usualy let Jormund keep his speed stick. He can't cut himself grabing it by the wrong end.

It's sometimes quite necessary that he has it. I mean, his strength is so poor, being able to swing many times each round is in order to compensate the low damage. And he needs that TH bonus badly...
