Forcing quest Locations?

    Before a quest places a location on a map does it sometimes simply not even exist? Are some locations totally impossible to get to no matter what even if you go to their exact coordinates just because the quest isnt yet triggered?

    There is an awesome unlimited charges teleportation staff in the Castle S'nel N'fa (1385W 643S) but when I go directly to that location I can't seem to see any castle. On the other hand if I spend the points in spot traps to get the mastery quest in Tarant FT Fitzgerald marks it on my map and the castle shows up every time I walk there or teleport there or whatever afterward.

    I don't yet have high enough technological aptitude to be sure the staff will still be useable later on in the game when I've spent more points in the tech colleges so I'm not yet sure if it will be a good investment to get the staff. If I could just force the location without the mastery quest I could get it much more cheaply and not worry about whether the staff will still be useable later in the game.

    Does anybody know of a way to get the staff without spending the points to get spot traps mastery?

    Are there any items that increase spot traps skill in the game? is the vooriden offering the only way to increase spot traps short of spending charactr points to raise it?

    Does anybody know if very high tech aptitude (say 100) are able to use the staff to teleport around?

    All locations should be foracable, however, you not all of them are big enough to be seen from the tile next to it, so if you just missed with one degree...

    You could always change Virgils dialouge file to mark the location for you though.

    It definately wasn't missed by one degree unless the coordinates published by various guides are off by a degree. Is there a way to see exactly what the coordinates are once I've had it marked as part of the mastery quest? The only way I've known is hovering over the pink circle on the map with the pointer and seeing what coordinates show when it looks dead center.

    Well, you wrote it was at 1385W and 643S.

    However the location bank says 1386W and 340S.

    woot! I can't wait to try those coordinates. I guess i'll need to start learning to look the locations up directly rather than relying on guides i've downloaded.

    1386w, 640S it is then.

    This will of course make spot traps mastery quest utterly and totally pointless but I think that's as much as it deserves anyway.

    can't seem to force it with the new coordinates.

    I had a question about forcing location as well.

    By forcing quintarra isnt the persuade master to come back in Tarrant ?

    As far as I know the Teleport spell doesn't fail regardless of aptitude.

    that would apply even if the spell were in an item?

    I noticed the other day that the dark helm no longer had any effect on my character even though her tech aptitude was only 44.

    where you able to force the location Zebulin ?
    I believe you can only get the location by doing the spot trap masters quest.

    You can only be told about it by the spot trap master, however just because your charakter doesn't know about it doesn't mean the map is diffrent. Just because you don't know that there's a place in Sweden called Malmö, doesn't mean it's not possible for you to go there. With the Arcanum map, it's the same thing.

    certainly true of the real world but have you actually succeeded in forcing the location using the coordinates you gave us?

    I know I wasn't able to force the gorgoth pass directly but I know If I was keep heading west (normal view)I would hit the mountains. I was a succes. Just when I wasn't able to move west anymore I went south and there was the pass.

    Maybe it should be done like this method as well

    No, I'm on Linux, so I can't play. But I mean, the world doesn't chage when you get a new location, not in the real world, and not in Arcanum. If it did, it'd use way too much resources from the computer. But if I was you, I'd walk around that arear very throuhroughly.

    We I'm done seaching for the location. I don't believe its able to force it. I had trouble with some other places as well

    I'm skeptical as well but ill try it again and report back here when I get back home from work.

    I tried repeatedly to force that location and have never found it. I kept walking in tight concentric circles over the listed coordinates and it never appeared. I didn't want to go there anyways. :???:

    Ok Ive had no luck forcing the location but I can now verify that the staff indeed has infinite charges of teleport but ONLY if you refrain from using the charges of unlocking cantrip and see contents which it also has charges of. DO NOT USE THE UNLOCKING CANTRIP OR THE SEE CONTENTS spells in the staff! So long as those spells arent used the staff can teleport over and over and over. It was still working just fine at tech aptitude 66. Ill have to earn more cp before I can report if it will work at even higher tech aptitiude.


    I'll say that any character lacking teleport with enough perception to do spot traps mastery may *seriously* want to consider doing the quest if only to get this awesome staff.

    WOW!!!

    I owe Xz an apology! Yes it's true that when I tried to force the location using the coordinates Audral gave and the coordinates I had read from guides I arrived in a clearing with no castle in sight whereas when I did the quest nomrally I arrived next to a skeleton and a path and a moated castle.

    HOWEVER...I noticed that when I got there via the quest I could see that falchon's ache style dense forest bounded the clearing on one side of the castle and that the dense forest was distributed in a distinctive pattern.

    I tried forcing the location 1386 640 again and although no castle was in site I found the edge of teh clearing and started following it. I didnt see the area I had tried to memorize but just when I was about to give up I stumbled into what looked like a river but turned out to be the moat around the huge castle!

    You don't have to get the spot traps mastery quest to get this awesome unlimited teleportation staff!

    Just force the coordinates and find that moat! You can deal with the traps using reveal traps scrolls or fast turn based combat or whatever.


    Another thing I saw was that when I followed the moat around the castle to the skeleton and path that I arrive at when given the quest it seemed to be at the same location on the map (1385, 643) that I originally had read about.

    This i don't understand. how can arriving at the same coordinates not place me at exactly the same spot?

    Something weird going on there for sure.



    Anyway I swear that it is possible to force this location. Tommorow I'll see if I can find foolproof directions from a forced arrival at 1386 640 to the moat or perhaps from a forced arrival at 1385 642 to the moat.
    I'm sure it will be possible to identify the direction to head from arrival to reach the moat every time.

    WOooooHooooo!


    Ok all you have to do is force to 1386 W 640 S and run several (like a dozen or a couple dozen) screens toward the upper right corner of your screen and you will hit the moat near where the skeleton and the path are every time.

    It's just far enough that someone attempting to spiral that far out might easily get discouraged and give up before reaching the castle but its really quite a short run in a straight line.

    EDIT2:

    anyone has an answer to this? I forced Quintarra but persuade master still wasn't in Tarrant. I get the feeling his come back is quest related

    hrmm maybe you need to speak to the silver lady before he shows up?

    also back to the staff i forgot to mention that the final boss guy doesn't carry it but it's in a "magically held" chest right behind him. demolish the chest and the staff is yours.

    remember DON'T use the other spells on the staff!

    I can't seem to enter the passage that leads to the silver lady. The gaurd don't mention her either.

    Seems like the only why to meet up with the silver lady is via Raven. But by forcing Quintara, Raven isnt there where she should be.
