Follower limit

Is there a follower limit, not including the free followers. Is 6 the max stat for followers?

 

In the patched version Cha can't go above 20 so 6 is maximum.

You should read previos post on maximum followers! Theres 3 pages of posts!

I did read them but people always go way off topic and i end up reading dozens of posts that have nothing relevant in them

You get 6 follower slots when you max Charisma and 1 follower slot with expert Persuasion meaning that the max amount of follower slots you can get is 7.

 

As I know it, your maximum number of followers is derived from your charisma divided by 4, such that having a charisma of 20 allows you to have 5 followers. A person having at least 12 charisma may attain Expert level in Persuasion which adds +1 to their followers' limit, which makes the maximum number of followers you can have at any one time 6.

Some followers will join you regardless of your max. followers limit, these include Chukka, Dante, Dog and Jormund, and NPC's which join you in completing a quest, including Swyft, Cynthia Boggs, Thorvald Two Stones, and Murgo (the Vooriden ogre). All the 'free' followers are easily identifiable (especially the dog in this nature) because you can't engage them in dialog further than trading and stance orders. There are exceptions to this rule, such as Waromon (he is not a 'free' follower yet you can't ask him questions beyond trading and stances), and Arronax. Arronax is a free follower but you can engage him in dialog.

Contrary to some people's belief, the attaining of Persuasion Mastery does NOT allow you to have as many followers as you like; it may only seem that way because Mastery allows you to sway any potential follower to your side (even Geoffrey when you're 100% 'noble', and Magnus if you're 100% evil).

I too find it very fitting, somehow, to call him 'good'. Why, he was so damn 'good' that I gave up trying to be an evil thief on my first Arcanum game; in that game he somehow found out that I had stolen money from the bank, and attacked me just as I was going to cross the Shrouded Hills bridge! (he was waiting for me by the bridge's gate). As if that wasn't enough, he also had 2 level 8 human guards, with himself being level 30! Of course, my 'evil' level 7 thief was horrendously shot down, murdered in cold blood by that 'good' old doc. (I just couldn't resist stealing money as an evil character since it gives you a -2 alignment shift and a further -3 if you manage to kill the 30 alignment 'good' doc.)

Talk about being crazy for good! I cannot know why I forgot about him in my earlier post!

 

Chukka is not free.

Thorvald can become permanently free.

I could have sworn Dante has conservation options. Hmmm, I'l have to ask him. Thorvald has limited options.

 

Kill him when he's sleeping. Backstab him. Dynamite him then run off. Why would it even matter?

Oh, and I'd notice that when you're saving the bank, sometimes, he'll attack you.

 

If unpatched, he sometimes asumes a stray shot was from you & on pourpose. In the patched game, you or another party member have to hit him for him to shoot you. Don't worry, play often enough & it will hapen.

 

I don't think so. Because even though I know that dog doesn't count toward your max followers. But chukka and dante and jormund do. I have them and that is why I can't get smythe. :cry:

dante and jormund are free followers that NEED a slot to join you. After they join ask them to wait and then have them rejoin.

I always get them when I have a full group so I let jayna wait have one of them join, then let them wait have jayna rejoin and then let the other one rejoin.

Quite right Parmanian. In this respect, Chukka, Dante and Jormund are FREE followers, but to recruit them you MUST initially have an unfilled slot; after they have filled that slot you can ask any of the three to wait, recollect the follower you asked to wait to get them (if you had one, that is) and then ask either of the three FREE followers to join you. Chukka is free but you need to apply the above method. Dog, another free follower, is the only exception to this rule.

 

Confused over bickering.

So there are now a total of 6 free followers?
Dog, Dante, Thorvald, Jormund, Chukka, and some dwarven king, right?

 

I really don't believe chukka is free, I'll have to go back to a previous save game that doesn't have 20 cha in it. But if chukkas free then it saves me those 4 cps till later in the game!

PS Chukka is NOT free I just tried again! there are a lot of more experienced people on this board and they would have known that, now I am sure!

 

As it takes 12 CH to have Bates offer Chukka, he is neither free nor easy.

 

for my games it takes 20 cha and LVL 15 to get him!

Or is it just that you are always CH 20 when you get there?

Just tested it again myself. CH 12 worked & he is still not free. Perhaps masterofthelostcollege is playing unpatched & he is free there. It can be confusing. When I first realized there were free folowers other than Dog & Thorvald, I posted a thread on the Serria board "Is Chukka free or is it Dante?" As there was no answer, I rolled up a new PC & answered it myself. Such were the humble origins of the famed Shadygrove Arcanum Research Facility.
