Hello all, I've been lurking on and off here for years as I've played, gone away from, and returned to Arcanum. I decided to post because after years of succumbing to chronic character creation I have finally finished Arcanum for the first time. Simply said this remains one of my favorite games ever, even if I've only played past the BMC once. I've played up to the BMC countless times though. I finished it as a Fighter/Mage with extra character points as in my past play I always thought you had too few character points. I've decided that's just because I only played the first third of the game. With the extra CPs the game was really a cake walk so I think it's straight vanilla Arcanum from here on in points wise. I played patched but not with the UAP so I'm looking forward to using it in the future, but I need at least 1 more full play through before I use the UAP so I can have mind controlled armies. Also looking forward to editing the game to actually have useful followers! I'm debating between simply using the hack so I can spend my points themselves or going in and editing the auto level schemes. Any thoughts? Also aside from Pick Locks are their any non combat skills that are actually useful for NPCs to have? I also have one quick question that I think I know the answer to. I understand that within the game stats and skills range from 0-20 and that 1 point in a skill on the character screen actually adds 4 in the game. My question is if that 20 is a hrd coded limit? IE If I have a Gnome with 4 CPs in haggle (18 skill total) and put the 5th poitn in does it go to 22 or is it stopped at 20? Thanks for the time and answers!
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure it stops at 20. It can make it a bit akward with race and item combos that add half points (or +2, +3) to a skill. Thankfully you only need 18 points in a skill to master it, except for persuasion.
