As there's no news post on this topic, I suppose this is as good a place as any.

For those who haven't heard, Drog Black Tooth announced yesterday that the Unofficial Patch is in as complete a form as it's going to be. The original RPG Codex post may be found here:

    http://rpgcodex.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=23720&start=0

As almost all significant bugs have been found and fixed, most of the edits in the past few versions have been spelling edits. As Arcanum's dialogs appear to have been written by multiple authors, finding consistency in style and syntax seems to have been a veritable black hole in which nearly every change might be considered subjective. While I don't find fault with any of these changes, I do agree with Drog here, for the most part: Quite a few times have I started out on a project to change something small, only to discover that it resulted in many changes that were difficult to justify in their entirety, and which no longer fixed only one obvious omission or bug.

Hopefully, it will still be possible to add some small edits in the Unofficial Patch, whether added by a 3rd party or if Drog evaluates the few that might be gathered together every month or so. Normally, I might take this opportunity to suggest that Drog should continue rather than retire, but considering both the quantity and quality of his work, I'd rather simply say that it's a job quite well done.

I don't think that ending here is an issue of dialog alone. Instead, it seems like the logical conclusion of the movement to eliminate all of what can reasonably be considered bugs or omissions, and editing the text of dialog was simply the last remaining effort. There's no drama here, either, so no one can accuse Drog of being lazy or easily offended or whatever people have said before. This is, I think, a good a time to end as any. As I've said, I hope there is still a little room for minor additions in the coming months, but if not, I still want to congratulate Drog for his work. Arcanum will forever be changed because of it.

Well done Drog. Many, MANY thanks for all your hard work. I must say that the unofficial patch was one of the biggest things that brought me back to Arcanum after shelving it for several years.

Arcanum finally fixed to the point where the worst problems are minor typos... Unbelievable is what it would've been a couple months ago. Great work Drog !

I still can't believe the sheer amount of effort people are putting into this game, 7 or so years after it's initial release. THAT's the hallmark of a great game, I tell you.
