Um, what site did you guys use for hints and such? Also, how do I record Gizmo's conversation, or plant a bug? I can't seem to do either. I've done it before, but don't remember how I did it...

You need the tape recorder in your inventory, then talk to Gizmo about why he wants you to kill Killian.

You can use the steal skill to plant the bug on Gizmo as well. Save before doing this, because it may not work first time around.

Thanks. Gizmo's a rotting corpse now.

Guys, what skills do you concentrate on in FO? I have about 105 in small guns, 60 in energy, 75 in doctor, 40 in barter. Those are the highest ones, and the ones I've invested in. Also, when do your primary stats increase? Like, Strength, Agility, Perception... Thirdly, and lastly, how often do you get to pick a Perk?

{EDIT} Jarinor, I just saw you on here. Answer my questions, bee-atch. Don't go acting like you got a life other than TA and retard.

You can gain a perk every three levels (3,6,9...), unless you have chosen the "Skilled" trait, then you can have one in every four levels (4,8,12...).

The stats, well they don't increase naturally. Only way to increse them in FO1 is to:

Have a surgery in the Brotherhood to raise some of them (Strength, Perception, Endurance, Intelligence and Agility). But this is going to cost you some money to do.

Patrick the Celt, can increase your charisma by one.
Chuck, the fortuneteller, can increase your luck by two.

Don't ask me where to find the last two, because I can't remember where they are.

I always TAG! science, speech and small guns and then energy weapons later on when you get the TAG! perk.

I also add alot of doctor, a fair amount of lockpick and a little bit of steal and outdoorsman skill. Combined with my high INT, high LUCK character, the outdoorsman skill allows me to get the special encounters really early on.

The high LUCK and INT also means I can talk my way out of most things and I can kill most things in one shot with a critical hit.

You can improve four of your primary stats. Strength, Agility, Perception and Intelligence I think, although I may be wrong. When you get further into the game you get the option of joining the BoS. In a back room somewhere is a super computer which allows you to upgrade yourself using special modules you find throughout the game (one for each stat).

Other than that, your primary stats are fixed. Or maybe some perks can alter them. Can't remember.

Perks are gain every 3 levels. This means that you get to pick up to 10 perks in all. However, some traits can lower the perk rate to every 4 levels. Perks are selected at the character screen after leveling up for the required level (ie. level 3, 6, 9 etc.. to level 30). I normally save when I level up so that I can choose various perks and decide which one is best.

    Hope that helps.

BTW, I'm currently replaying Fallout 2 (I couldn't get Fallout to install on my new windows XP system the bastard :x ) and I'm already fully engrossed again. Fantastic game! :)

I've started Fallout anew recently (and I've got exams coming up too, great choice there on my part!) and I've taken an unusual character compared to my usual style.

    Stat wise (in SPECIAL order): 7 6 7 2 9 10 6
    Tags: Unarmed, Sneak and Science
    Traits: Gifted and Finesse

My brother also ran across a very unusual bug (or incredibly risky act if it wasn't a bug) after visiting the Glow. He kind of didn't have much radiation protection, and stayed there a little too long and built up an incredible rad count. Travelling back to civilisation with no rad away at all, he stopped a few times to experience excrutiating radiation poisoning. Upon his return, he checked his stat sheet to see how badly he was affected (he'd noticed in his return journey that they were dropping really low due to the radiation). To both of our surprise, everything except Luck had been boosted...to 10. Every single physical stat was 10. Most likely a bug, but still really cool - sort of like what happens to superheroes hey? Instead of dying, they come out stronger. I wouldn't recommend trying this you could cause yourself a lot of heartache.

I'm guessing Patrick the Celt and Chuck the Fortune Teller are also found in random encounters. In the NCR in FO2, the Hubologist can increase your Luck by 2 if you agree to undergo the zeta scan or whatever it is. It doesn't turn you into a Hubologist either...although sometimes it doesn't work.

You only get 10 perks? That sucks! Especially when you have the option of picking some perks more than once. Man, how do you ever decide?

That's like a level cap. I never reached that in FO II besides, being level 30 is more than enough to to finish the game. All the XP put together from quests won't even wield that much.

The radiation thing is a known cheat for Fallout. It was removed from Fallout 2 though. I can't remember the exact requirements but in order to get it you have to do something like get X amount of radiation poisioning and then get Y level of stats and then -Z amount of healthpoints. If the order is correct then it should boost all primary stats (exept luck apparently) to 10 and give you increased HP and maximum RAD resistance.

At least, that's what I've read. I've never tried it myself.

I think I got to level 28 on Fallout before, but then I got insanely bored just wandering around and 1 shot killing everything I came across so I completed the game. If you get to level 30 then I'm guessing the game would be a walk in the park.

Also, as far as perks go, I usually go for the awareness one first as that's the best one I get at that level. It allows you to tactically pick which enemies to take out first due to HP or what weapons they carry. I usually go for critical enhancing perks after that because I go for the finesse trait and thus I don't do much damage, but with those perks half the time I can get instant kills, or at least unconsciousness for 3 or 4 turns. Of cause, the sniper or slayer perk is a must and so is the TAG! perk, which allows you to raise another skill level quickly (I usually go for energy weapons because by the time I get TAG! then I'm just starting to come across my first energy weapons and they kick ass. :) ).

Like I said though, save the game in a reserved slot for leveling up and then you can experiment with the different perks to see which one is best. :)

    DAMN DAMN DAMN

Why oh why can I get someone to agree with me once, but then, if I reload and try to bargain the SAME DEAL, it won't work?

Case in point: I went to the water merchant woman, and got her to agree to take water to the vault for 1000 caps, which is half of what she asked for, 2000 caps. Well, I screwed up a little later(and didn't save) so I went back to her, and I'll be damned if she won't take 1000 caps. She snottily says, "I'm sorry, but I'll need full payment." WTF? I haven't done anything different.

Also, why the hell is Decker and gang so hard?

Jarinor, where ya at? Answer fast, dude, this is the last night I get to play FO for 5 days. (Going on vacation with the wifey-poo.)

{EDIT} Ok, now Slappy won't take me to the Death Claw cave. The dialouge option never comes up. WTF?

You need to get the mission from Fargo Traders first, then talk to Harold and lastly, that crazy dude.

And about your haggling skills, this is an RPG, it's all chance.

Actually, you need to get the mission from Fargo, talk to Beth, then talk to Harold, then talk to Slappy. After that, you can go get up close and personal with some brass knuckles like I did :).

Like Jinxed said, there's a chance each time you choose a dialogue option it will or won't work. I have a terrible speech skill and incredibly low charisma, but I still persuaded Ian to join me for free. Your only option is save and reload multiple times until you get the desired result :D.

Thanks guys, I knew you wouldn't let me down.

I'm now going to the glow. I'm trying to find some Rad-x and Rad away first, though. Who sells it?

Also, I notice that the more shit I sell to vendors, the less money they have. (Well, duh) What I mean is that their inventory never resets, does it? You can deplete a vendor's inventory by collecting lotsa shit, and selling it to them.

Actually, if you sell stuff to a merchant for all his/her money, finish talking with them and then barter again immediately, their money restocks instantly. Inventory restocks over time.

As for Rad-X and Rad-Away, a dude called Vance in the Hub has a lot of both. He's just east of Jacob. The thing is, though, he's expensive to talk to. A guy hanging around outside the Maltese Falcon can tell you about him for 1000 bottle caps, or the first time you talk to Jacob, if you explore every dialogue option without bartering you can learn about him for free. Only the first time though. Either that, or the first time you ask Jacob about his background.

Guys, do you have any idea why the Devs changed the currency from bottlecaps to coins in Fallout 2? IMO, the former fitted in with the context of the game far better.

Well Chris Avellone said this in the FO Bible (update 8), when someone asked about why they changed the caps to the gold:

Well, at least they took advantage of that to create one of the most hilarious quests I've ever done in Fallout 2. Ah, you can't go wrong with a ghoul, a midget and a well...

Is there any way to retrieve said midget? I noticed that you only get XP for convincing the ghoul to tell you about the treasure. You don't seem to get any XP for finding the location, convincing the midget, or retrieving the treasure. Just makes me wonder if there is any way of completing the operation to get more XP. :/

Not that I know of...but listening to the midget shout out for help is hilarious. Why would you want to retrieve him?
