I'm just beginning the game. I'm a senior (70+) who never begins a game without an available cheat; not because I like to use them (I don't), but because I don't like to abandon a game if it puts me in a position where I can't go forward or backward. Now I've had a bang out of Arcanum so far, but I'm stuck at the bandits-at-the-bridge. I can't talk them into letting me pass, and I don't see how I could have collected enough explosives or explosive materials to blow up the materials at the new bridge site. My character and his cleric pal certainly can't take them on. What's my move here? Oyster.
You should be able to find an axe somewhere (even if its just a rusty axe). Use that to force-attack the wood, since that will damage it without damaging the weapon. Also, while your Charisma might not be enough to trick them into thinking you are part of the thieves guild as well, you may be able to acquire the Half-Ogre in the inn, who could help out if you choose to fight them. Or of your character is a more thieving type, you could attempt to pickpocket the key off of the leader.
if your character has any fate points, use one to ensure a sucessful pick pocket, but it's more fun to hack them to pieces with sogg. if you need more exp to raise your charisma try walking the path from the crash site and kill all the wolves you can. and welcome to our forum, :wavey:
a potion of speed can go a long way here. my level 2 gunfighter took them on with a hunting rifle, 2 points in firearms, and virgil. we both had speed potions and i had to use a couple health and fatigue ones as well, but it is definitely possibly, especially if you include sogg. if youre looking to acquire money easily this early in the game, there is a way, ask for the spoiler if you want it.
One point in persuasion is enough to convince the Witless guy that you're a member of the underground theives. The rest is just walking the dialog minefield
Welp, the available cheat in this instance would be the save-game editor. Fire it up, edit your character into the Incredible Hulk, load Arcanum and go give them thieves a can of whup ass. Then edit your character back into the pansy he was before Or give yerself that extra point of persuasion. Whatever fits your dress. Savegame Editor by DKoepp913. An editor for savegames. This editor allows you to mess with your character's stats, skills, etc. It also allows you to edit followers.
Drop Rusty Daggers or Railroad Spikes where EVERY one of the bridge gang will pick them up. They will equip them & do much less damage to you. No FT dammage either. Makes the job so much eaiser.
NPCs will equip what they think is the best weapon. Those are truly lousy weapons, so anyone with a sword will not equip them. The bridge gang has no weapons, so they equip the ones that are worst than fists. Any humanoid opponent that does not carry weapons should fall for the same trick. (I must try that in Ashbury Castle someday.)
Keep your explosive grenade you find at the crash site and use ti on them. Just be sure Virgil, (and Sogg if ya got him) are out of the way. I had zero on throwing and it took three game reloads to kill the Witless guy and nearly kill the half ogre standing next to him. After that, the last one is pretty easy. :deadly:
