So, I'm thinking about buying this game.
Is there magic, in it? And, can you choose skills/class/gender? Gender and class are the most important, to me.
Also, magic takes precedence before anything.

buy it, buy it, buy it, buy it, buy it now!, the game rocks hard baby. you will not be disappointed, it feels like diablo but with a lot more freedom and interaction. if you do not buy this game you are stupid.

Buy it. It's great. You can be one of three classes, for either gender. It suffers some of the usual gender prejudice and stereotyping of the fantasy genre, but possibly a bit less than other popular titles (Diablo or Arcanum, for instance).

There's magic all over the place. You're be knee deep in it most of the game.

I wouldn't exactly say there are three classes. True, chances are the character will wind up being either mage, tech, or thief, but even from that it can be expanded to a more combat oriented char or more persuasive char, different weapon styles to choose from, etc. So there is a lot more variety than just "three classes."

Woops, sorry. Just woke up. Thought she was talking about Arcanum and the title was just random.

    *goes back into hiding*

EDIT: This is why I seem to do more lurking than actual posting. Always seem to make an even bigger ass out of myself.

Hmm... I've never ever heard of this game... Is it new? Does it have high system requirements? Is it fantasy? What's the average cost? Is it hackn' Slash or more like NWN?

I thought I'd give you an update. I've completely explored the main map area, Verdistis and the Dark forest. I'm leaving the main plot for now, but I've managed to complete 3 ways of getting an invitation into SF castle so far, and am up to 42 rep, and level 31.

I'm practically invincible, with magick and decent fighting skills, plus several survivor skills. I must say that the skill system is really good, not tie-ing you down to any predetermined class. I'm also saving some skill points for the use in the survivors' divine skills. I'm assuming you get these near the end of the game?

If noone has got it yet, and is thinking of buying it, then I suggest that you do! It will simply suck you in, and drain of of any will to click on that little 'quit' button at the bottom of the main menu. :D

The only annoying thing is, that you can completely ruin some major quests by doing something early on, that breaks a quest you have not got yet. a prime example of that is the holy weapons quest. I got all weapons, and headed off to the holy cavern, but when I got there, it said I couldn't do the quest, because right near the beginning of the game, I had touched the altars!! I had to load a really old save game and start again from there! That's about 30 hours of pure gaming time, without the random wanderings of the prior game, just to get back to the stage I was at!!

Apart from that, it's a fantastic game. Get it!

...and don't touch any important-looking things in hidden or difficult to get to rooms, unless you have a quest that pertains to that room.

You assume correctly. However, don't save any points for the divine skills. They're a bit of a let-down. They would have been super-useful earlier in the game, but when you finally do get them they're pointless and underpowered. Anyway, once you get to the endgame there's plenty of XP-fodder for you to slaughter, so if you want to try the divine skills you'll certainly have enough points to invest. But for the love of god don't SAVE points for them! Use them now, on something useful, something that can really help you or at least keep you amused for a while....

Sorry. I rant. I just have very strong feelings about the silly divine skills. And the whole endgame for that matter, but that's a rant for another time....

I'm already level 32, and I haven't even entered Stormfist castle yet. I've got 8 skill points saved up, but really have no need of them, because I can do anything and everything I always wanted to.

To kill a really difficult enemy, all I do is freeze them, and then hack away at them with a deathblade with +4 life drain on it. I recharge my health, and kill the immobile enemy at the same time. I haven't met a challenging enemy yet, except one or two undead (my first Lich, for example) as they don't freeze.

I've got fantastic armour, that gives me about 10+ extra skills, and boosts all four stats by a minimum of 20 each. My resistances are all at 45+, and virtually no spell can harm me.

I was thinking of restarting on hard, but I'm just too far through the game now to restart.

I don't think I need to spend those skill points just yet....

BTW, what's your maximum level cap?

I don't believe there is a level cap. Some people experiencing some kind of XP bug have reached level 180. For those without the bug, they seem to end the game around level 50-57. An experiment involving hex editing showed that around level 128 or so you'd stop gaining XP from killing creatures, and given that creatures don't respawn it's better to think of XP as a scarce commodity. Not to be wasted on Traders Tongue or some such rubbish. :)

Was that your question? I haven't had my morning caffeine fix yet....

BTW, if you want to freeze the Lich and whatnot, get a weapon with Frost on it. I swear, next time I play that game I'm staying as far away from Frost as possibe..... makes it WAY too easy. I've also got to stop reloading to get better item stats. Bad habits ruin the fun. :(

I love this game, apart from the obscene save-game sizes and the poofy male mage voice.

Thanks. That was what I wanted to know. At least I can keep on gaining levels without having to worry about rationing my skill points and stat points for a while at least.

if you think you've had an easy run so far ferret, wait till you get to josephina (sp), four times that bitch and her merry band of dwarves have kicked my arse, i'm thinking i might have to turn the difficulty down to normal till i get past her.

Well, I finally got the game
Now, my only question is- how do I raise my stats? And by stats, I mean, Int/wis/Mana/Hp, that sort of thing? I know how to raise skills.

    a) Level up. :D

    b) Find items that give you stat boosts.

    c) Charm items to give you stat boosts.

A friend of mine said this was a great game and that he recommended. I was tempted to buy it.

Wanted Divine Divinity, but alas, I only had 12 dollars, so I bought Fallout 1 and 2 instead, in the jewel case. Can I get in the |337 Fallout R0cK5 club now?

Yo! I did that too! In fact, I worked with Fallout 1 over the weekend.

It's the best in my opinion because once you get the water chip, you have all the time you want, and it is soooo easy to find real cool guns like the miniguns and plasma weapons.
