All I can say to people that are dissapoited with me is that I'm sorry. A moderator job is not easy. I have alot of work, that requires a sober fluent mind all the time. Sometimes I'm not 100%. We all make mistakes. When I first started posting here (my first actuall shot at internet commiunication on a broad scale) I did my share of spamming. Things that would definetly qualify for the vault of folly. Now the purpose of that forum is not to ridicule the old time members becuase we are experienced enough not to flame or spam. If you don't think so, comment about it. It's more of something to laugh at. It's also something to keep us from spamming since we know that if we do, it will wind up there.

Know to discuss the latest bannings.
1 I have talked with the evil dictator and he made it clear a couple of days ago to ban mr. Bortiss if he ever comes back. That was, some time ago. I have since then deluded myself that he will come to any sense. And yet he surprised me by creating a thread pulling every single sentence out of context he could find. It just hurts me to say the least that I was unable for any compromise with this person.

2. The Rasta_rat guy is an obvious case of someone trying to trash the forum, such people should be warned and if nothing changes, banned. And that's just what happened.

3. Eros Rex. Well, I liked this guy. He contributed alot, few spam threads but I though it was nothing that couldn't be sorted out. However his last posts were like from the twilight zone.

I banned Eros, not Jinxed.

The way I look at it, anyone that gets upset at a forum decision and decides the best course of action is to ask to be banned, and spam the forum with multiple threads bitching, moaning, and flaming, deserves to be banned.

I left one of the four threads he started here in this forum. The other three are where they belong, in the follies.

You could perhaps with favorable result among the masses ease up abit in your ever so vigilant pursuit of someone or something to whack over the fingertips!

Oh, and S_P: That "banned for being an idiot" remark was totally unnessesary. On that point I to some degree concurr with Eros' comment: If you are to have power over other on a board and act as a makeshift moderator, or a real one for that matter, one should remain calm and totally unbiased when passing ones verdicts.

As a mod you should be extremely carefull as to when you lash out some punishment, lest you be smothering the board you try to protect.

"I am the Law!" just doesn`t cut it I`m afraid....

I would have banned Rat.

I would NOT ban Eros, and I would ask you not to. So he occasionally rants. He'll get over it. I hope he comes back and continues to contribute, since he seems like a decent guy to me. Maybe some anger counselling would be in order though!

Bortiis_von_Bortiis might also come around. I think you did the right thing by not banning him before, Jinxed. He came here, posted a bit then managed to get into a war. That kind of thing happens all the time on forums. All wars have at least two sides. For it to end, we have to stop hammering him as well as him stopping his attacks on us. Clearly, if he then still shows no signs of wanting to end the war, you'll have no choice.

I'm actually a bit worried that Eros and Bortiis will get incensed by us all sitting here in judgement of them, since it smacks a little of a trial. Still, I suppose we have no choice if there is going to be any kind of consensus decision. People have suggested you seek opinions before making decisions.

 

Ok. Sheriff, I will take off Bortiss's ban. However I have a feeling in my gut that I will regret it. Since I had the same feeling by not banning him before. But about Eros, I respect Saint's decision and I will not change that. If anyone wants that the ban taken off, seek the evil dictator or bring it up with Saint himself.

Just to add MY 2 cents... I think that Eros's whole shpiel was a BIG case of misunderstanding. For some reason he seemed to think that Jinxed was out to get him. I think his banning was unfortunate, for he had some good posts when he wasn't flaming, but then we all learn.... I hate that he is banned and we will probably never see him again, but then I respect the mods for trying to create a friendly environment and I think they have done a good job with this forum. I look forward to posting here for a long while, if they and my fellow forumers will have me.

By the way, who is this Rasta_rat fellow? I don't think that I EVER saw one of his posts. Were they all deleted?

 

Bottom line, I am in Terra-Arcanum's house. By participating on this board I agree to abide by their rules of engagement and respect management's decisions. They pay their own electric bill, not me nor my taxes. Although I have logged considerably more moderating hours, I do not expect to be treated any better nor any worse. If I step out of line I hope Jinxed whacks me on top of my bald head. There is a plethora of message boards to suit anyone's needs. I enjoy it here. In my day we had a saying, "keep on trucking" and later "keep on keeping on." Now Grandpa needs his nap.

He's been a pretty good Mod for most of us since the starting of the board . Give him a chance .

You're doing fine, Jinxed. Just don't start partying too hard. It's over-rated.

 

Yeah, I think Jinxed is great... I can think of no one who would have the patience to write "this will be moved to the Tips & Tricks section... please read the forum's description before posting in it" about twice a day.
But I also think that Eros should not have been banned. What he was saying was most certainly no worse than what Bortiis was trying to spread around... and Bortiis was only on probation at first, hence my belief that Eros should be on probation at the most.
In any case, I doubt we shall be seeing him again.

Also: I like the Vault of Folly. We should also have a Hall of Fame for the best posters and the worst posters. I think that would be fun.

 

Actually, I didn't make that user group, which includes the "idiot" part in the name, I just used it for him since that was the only BANNED user field. I did make the avatar for it shortly after using it on him though.

Then again, there was originally going to be a dunce cap sitting on that stool, but you couldn't read the word, "Dunce" on the cap due to the size of the image.
