If this board is only for the experts, where is the board for the people who are starting out? I will use that board until I am more familiar with the game... Thanks.

Ask all your questions here, that's what this forum is for. You should however use Search feature to check whether the very same question wasn't already answered (it is annoying when you see "Stillwater giant?!" topic for the nth time while the person you posted it would get all the answers by typing stillwater giant in search engine easily). It doesn't mean that your question can't repeat but try to check at least whether it wasn't already gone through several times.

And if someone's bitching at you about asking beginners questions here show him to me.

:minigun: Bramble, this sight is not "experts only", for one. I don't recall ever having said, or implied such a thing. Second, I never tried to deter you from posting questions. I just think that in the amount of time it took you to find this sight, create a user account, post the question, and then wait for a reply, you could have found your way out of Shrouded Hills and a repair blacksmith, ten times over. And so I reiterate, GIVE THE GAME A CHANCE. If your looking for someone to hold your hand, buy the goddamn walk-through. So please, enough of your self- righteous indignation, and condescending posts.

Frankly I see nothing wrong in supporting a newbie and one who hasn't actually done nothing all that wrong at that. The way I see it more users logged>more topics>higher chance to have actually something to reply to. If you go around kicking people because they asked about something simple only a few regular users will stay, with time they'll have no fresh topics to discuss and finally forum will literally die.

:minigun: The forum is doing fine, and will be a better place without idiotic questions or comments, be it from a newbie or veteran. I have no problem answering beginner questions, as my past posting list will verify. I prefer a small amount of prestige over a toilet bowl full of questions, that could be answered just as easily by the person posting them. If you don't feel that Bramble's question falls into the latter of the aforementioned categories you should wipe the drool from your chin, adjust your safety helmet, and hustle on outside, 'cause the short yellow bus with the loading platform is waiting.

Watch it. If you're looking for a flame war I can grant you one.

Also if you stated simply what you wrote here ie.

then you should notice that it doesn't quite fall into the

cathegory and such statements are ok with me.

:minigun: Dear Dragoon, I'm not quite sure what a "flame war" is but it doesn't sound nice, however, your idle threats will not deter me from posting my opinion nor will it alleviate my desire to sweep monotonous drivel from this site. I do not seek to cause trouble, I merely want the forum to be a respected wealth of information.

Flame war is simply an insult war like:

Not a good thing definitely and pretty much dumb at that since there's no winner (unless one side is a moderator).

Anyway go on with your quest, you're not the only one who wants a clean forum, but do try to restrain from criticizing newbies for their first posts - they can post useful things once they get farther into the game. BTW you can be sure that if topics like "How do I equip my dagger?!" appeared you'd not be the only one to kick their authors around - be they newbies or not.

Darkwalker, it's easy to say a question is idiotic when you know the answer. If I applied your "could have found it out themselves" criterion, I'd have never answered a question nor had mine answered, since at some point there has to be an answerer who found it out for themselves.

Stop sitting in judgement of others. Answer their questions or don't, but there is no need to give them a hard time. In the time you spend on your moaning post, you could have made me a cup of tea.

:minigun: Dear all knowing Fatman, please keep in mind that I was responding to questions/comments presented to me, I don't think that constitutes as whining. Also, if you read my original post which started all this bullshit, I think it's clear that no judgement was passed. So mind your own god-damned business, and scuttle on back to your forum.

Well ... Darkwalker, it was more the

type of thing I was responding to. If you had kept all of your posts as reasonable as your initial one, I'd have no cause for comment, would I?

Then again, maybe I was just confused by your tendency to begin your posts with a friendly li'l mini-gunning smiley.

ME2 I like helping newbies everyone has to start somewhere and when you start ANYTHING you are bound to make mistakes. Understanding that a newbie does not exsist solely to piss you off with a "dum" question will help out a lot.
If it seems REALLY dum then just ignor it cause the person that you are considering "dissing" may well turn out to be a really cool friend in the end. (HEY that rhymed!)

I'm not saying I don't see Darkwalkers point cause i do it's just that "bitter" often turns out to be a party of one

    Make a Sticky Topic

I think that reminding newbies to do a search before asking a question is good advice and it does save a lot of time. Honestly, it hadn't occurred to me to do a search until I saw that advice on another post a couple of weeks ago.

One solution: a lot of message boards have a feature that allows the mod or the admin to make a topic Pinned (or Sticky), so that it always stays at the top of the forum. If this board can do it (and it probably can) maybe someone could post a topic called "Rules: Please Read Before Posting" in which the admins could advise (first and at the top) to do a search, and maybe add some rules about abuse, slamming, flaming, etc. I'm sure it would be beneficial.

And see, even if the vets are tired of seeing the same topic 3 times a week (twice by the same guy who didn't like the answer the first time and wants a second opinion) there are ways of helping newbies adjust to the rules and rhythm of the boards without slamming or flaming or otherwise abusing them, ne? :cool:_

No, no, no, you got it all wrong. :) Sheriff's not all knowing. The only all knowing being is "Sheriff Fatman's All Knowing Ass"(tm) Damn, I don't know how could he possibly not attach his sig pic after such a line.

Now why do I always learn as the last one?

Well it does seem pretty much obvious but still, if you can convince Calis or Jinxed to do it...

You can read that already when you subscribe I think. There's something like "admins are not responsible for what members post... ...if you abuse other member you may get banned".

The sticky is a good idea in theory, but some people are prone to asking questions without looking at the FAQ the sticky or noticing the search button. It's not a crime. This is an informal place, and it takes all sorts.

If you don't want to answer, that's your option. If you want to point out the search/FAQs, that's also your option. Noone is requiring you to answer questions, it is voluntary, so bitching about having to do it is ridiculous. Abuse/reprimanding other users is pretty pointless, since it always occurs after the fact and never improves the situation.
