I know only certain races can be either male or female upon character creation. Would it be possible to create a tech item to put into the game that would switch a player's sex were they to play as one of these races? I was thinking either just an item (or two), or a schematic and the resulting item. This wouldn't simply be a gender swap, there would ideally be an option to change the player's name once the effect had been achieved, as well as a portrait change. I thought of calling the single item a "Gender Bender" or something, but I'm not entirely satisfied with the lack of flair. However, I was more intrigued by having two separate items, one to turn a player into a woman (Feminizer), one to turn them into a man (Masculator). Given the nature of sexes in Arcanum, I felt it would be purely cosmetic in the least, or a role-play device at most. Now, I understand that simply adding items to the game is (relatively) simple. However, something like this would definitely involve adding code to the game just to make it work, as there is nothing currently in the game to do that. I was also thinking if a person took either gender specific item while they were already the desired sex, it would be poisonous or result in a temporary stat-drop. As for why this hasn't been done before, I thought it either hadn't been considered, or if it had, it was either too hard to be worthwhile or simply impossible. Here's a rough draft of the schematic text; Feminizer Has a woman ever had the gall to tell you you're incapable of understanding the plight of the fairer sex? Or do you simply fancy a dress and can't find one to fit your broad, masculine shoulders? Well, fret no more! Thanks to a revolutionary discovery in the discipline of Chemistry, one can now laugh in the face of what biology had decided, and become the opposite sex! Brilliant! Masculator Are you tired of men objectifying you and assuming a natural frailty due to your anatomy? Or perhaps you've always wanted to grow facial hair, but it wasn't deemed acceptable for your sex? You're in luck! Thanks to an incredible advancement in the field of Chemistry, you can grow as thick and luxurious a beard as you desire! You'll never be judged for a lack of femininity again, because now, YOU'RE A MAN! Astounding! I see that no one has answered. I would like to add that I'm not asking anyone to do this for me; it's something I want to tackle on my own (not elucidating this point earlier, and not having successfully made any of my own modules, I can see why this may prevent people even answering). I'm asking if indeed it's possible and whether or not what I thought it would involve is correct. If it's not possible or not worthwhile, a simple "no" would do.
Someone's been watching too much Futurama: As to the idea, it's cool but I have no clue - I just thought I'd post up my pointless comment about Futurama. I'm just another lazy person playing Arcanum from time to time with no idea about code or anything like that.
Well, actually, if it was called "The Gender Bender" I'd have made it a specific automaton that had medical functions and offered gender-corrective surgery, as well as the ability to pick pockets and fight. I think there's a way to dictate what a follower picks up and places into their inventory, so I'dve had it scramble for wine and absinthe that were put on the ground, as well as making it able to carry items. I just couldn't think of a name for it that had the whole Victorian feeling, and while Bender himself changed sex twice, I didn't feel it was in his character to change someone else's. Ah, whatever, maybe it would be more fun to just have bender in the game. I can see it now; You come upon a strange group of automatons in the wastes of Vendigroth, all of them fawning over a single automaton in the group... "We love you, Daddy Bender!" "Shut up, baby, I know it!"
Also very important to know is that the stats strength and constitution also change if the PC gender is changed. Because women lose one point in these two. That means you have to reset these two stats to one. Then give them the right amounts. PS: Was not there a cursed belt in BG I that changed your gender?
Yes, I think it was called the Belt of Gender-Swapping. It was a mix of the two items from AD&D, the belts of; Masculinity Femininity And there was a small chance that, upon putting one of these things on, the victim would become absolutely genderless.
Do not forget that you also need to change the portrait. Because as you change your gender, you can not of course use the same portrait. The problem is how will the PC choose his/her new portrait? Just choosing it from several portraits or will, it is generic.
