does any body know what the furnace in this dungeon is for?

i stumbled upon this place just after killing the poachers, so i don't know if it comes up later in the game.

 

I was just there last night, no idea. But it seems like a great place to destroy something, like cursed items.

 

when you get to the stringy pete quests, he asks you to destroy the scourge of something (a really evil sword)... so you go down there, kill the cursed paladin and his buddies, and get the sword from the chest next to the furnace, and toss it in.

i have virgil wielding that sword ... /shrug my theif has like 79 evil and so does virgil now .. .haha oh well, the procs rule (stoning, ensaring, curse, deathtouch.. heh)

anyway.. i got it before that quest and i don't remember.. i either just ignored the quest or killed the quest giver.. i like the sword tho, im techy but don't like the piro ax... virgil is too magic for it, i roleplay to much ... heh the game is very easy if you let it be.. you have to make it difficult.. and theirfor.. fun.
