    Any recommendations?

Don't get me wrong, he looks very smart in his smoking jacket but I'd like to provide him with a bit more protection for when things get less civilized. I'm having trouble finding something in his size.

Well, some shopkeepers keep large leather armors, though I wouldn't bother buying those, considering that you'll find a few of those when venturing the BMC mines. You can find some magick large leather armor as well, but I forgot exactly were.
And if you haven't got rid of the bandits in Shrouded Hills, there are two half-ogres with leather armor just waiting.

Some people claim to have seen large chainmails in shops too. I've never seen those, but you could certainly make them if you've enough points spent in smithy.

And, when you're off to Thanatos, you'll find a man in the Blackroot tavern that keeps two half-ogre bodyguards - those are wearing large basic platemails. If you've enough points spent in pick-pocket, or ain't adverse of burning a fate point or two, you should definately snag them. If you don't do it on your first visit, they will be gone, so don't put it up for too long.

I have been using Large Oiled Thieves Leather, which I love very much... I found it at the Mystic Woman in one town or another (I believe Tarant, but I'm not sure)

Large plate armour is always the best.

The only place I know to get it is the Ogre Destroyers who are guarding the chap that has Teach's boat in Black Root.

Give him the willies, get him to attack you (or just attack him outright if you are evil) and kill his ogre guards. Looting their corpses gets you that nifty horned armour that is 'large plate'. My 1/2 ogre character had it right up to the end. It's probably the best you can get for the big dumb guys.

But untill that time, keep your eye out for Large Leather or Large Studded Leather in the armorers. Or Large Mystic or Arcane Leather from the wise women.

Large Guard Leather can be found in the sealed sewers in Tarant on one of the Gnag of Five..

There is sometimes lesser stuff, Heavy Rags, Large Heavy Wool Jacket, at the Tailor or Armorer's shops.

The Large Leather from Shrouded Hills is inferior to the rest of the leather in the game. Look at its stats sometime. AC 4 vs AC 9 for most other types of leathers. It will make up into Large Healing Jackets & Large Ultralight Chain just fine though. Think about what that fight would be like if they had the good stuff, eh?

Well, that's where Fate Points get into the picture. Or very frequent retrying, with the occasional reload when you happen to do a critical failure. I suppose stealing armor is only possible through a critical success (which you always receive when burning a fate point on pick pocket).

Are you any good at modding?

I have heard tales of Large Mithryl Plate, but despite far too many hours in a lot of games, have never seen any Mithryl Plate, any size. The Mithryl Chain is rare beyond belief, a set is seen for sale once every 10 or so GAMES! Never seen Large Mithryl Chain either, but rumors persist.

    Shopkeeper hack?

That couldn't be very hard to do really. Of course, I lack the necessary skills to accomplish such a task, and seeing as my WorldEd usually shuts itself down after like three minutes, it's not like I'm going to learn how to do it either.

I could of course try reinstalling the game, see if WorldEd gets fixed by that and grab AMTUT (I tried it once when my WorldEd was unusually healthy - DU is king ;) ) - but nah, I really should use my time doing my homework. Not that I ever do it of course...

Anyway, let's hear it for a modification of the original Arcanum, with tons of new equipment, wider availability of rare already existing armaments and Lucks marvellous dual-wield scripts!

Unless I'm completely misunderstanding the issue you wouldn't need to use WorldEd for this. Just open up, what, invensouce.mes in Notepad or whatever and add the desired item to the desired shopkeeper type. Only items in description.mes seem to work though.... But as both mithril and arcane plate (all sizes) are in description.mes it works so far as this discussion goes. I'd do it myself but I'm rather against that sort of hack. Plus I'm dead lazy. :)

There exists a shopkeeper hack. The first time you talk to any shopkeeper, he has his normal first day selection. After that, everything he carries is always available. I believe it sets all odds of things apearing to 100%.

    Its here: http://rpgplanet.com/arcanum/tinkerer/t ... shopkeeper

Large Mithril Plate and Large dragon skin leather and Large Arcane leather are the best available large armors you can get. All of these can be added to the shopkeepers inverntories, but you have to edit the InvenSource.mes file and put it in your Arcanum/Data/Rules folder for them to work. If you install the Shopkeeper Hack, it will create the file you need, then you just have to use Arcanun or Undat to extract Description.mes from Arcanum3.dat and look up the item numbers and add them to the end of the appropriate shopkeepers' inventory lists with a high enough percentage likelihood that they will actually stock it, i.e., something like 2000, 8068 for Large Mithril Platemail. After looking that one up, I noticed that there's also Large bronzed Plate. So look through description.mes and you may find other large armor that you would like to have. Personally, I prefer Large Arcane Leather because it is light, but gives excellent protection and if you get your haggle skill up you can afford it pretty quickly.

if your a heavy tech fellow you can always make some large machined plate... though it requires travelling a good amount to create, as well as around 5-10k... but I have the shopkeeper hack, and I have never seen large mythryl, and had two suits of Mythryl for quite awhile... (one for me, one for virgil) I've never seen nor heard of large mythryl... though I suppose you could check World Ed and see if it persists in there... I would say that it doesn't exist and is purely a rumor, but who knows... maybe one of us will stumble across it, if you do please take a screenshot and let us know so it can be posted on here...

I have found large leather armour on the half ogres at the Shrouded Hills bridge, as well as in most blacksmiths. You can get large oiled thieves leather from the magic shop in Ashbury the first time that you go there and I have seen it at the magic shop in Caladon. I find large studded leather on a fairly regular basis at the blacksmiths in Shrouded Hills and Dernholm as well as the Magical Smith in Tarant. I also believe that there might be a large studded leather available as part of the loot from the Firearms mastery test. I have also seen large Magic, Mystic and Arcane leather armours scattered throughout Arcanum

I have never seen large chainmail of any kind.

I have seen large basic platemail on the two ogre destroyers in the Blackroot tavern before you go to Thanatos and I have a vague memory of seeing some large Arcane platemail at the wise woman in Tarant,
I was playing a human called Thomas on the 'Miracle Operation' background. Although since I've finished the game about 10 times now it was so long ago I can't remember.

I'm not sure of the frequency with which shop goods change in the various stores, but I seem to recall large armor turning up now and then in Tarant and Ashbury. Perhaps you could try resting several days, then going back.

Large mithril plate does indeed exist, as does small mithril plate.

They're in description.mes, and can easily be added to inversource.mes.

I don't think I've ever seen mithril plate in the wild save for one time with a gypsy woman.
