I was reading the Nibelungenlied, and found an interesting name: Alberich. A dwarf who once was immortal, a keeper of the treasure of the Nibelungs, until he tried to take it all for himself, at which time he was cast down to Midgard, sentenced to mortality. When he found the treasure again, it was under Fafnir, a dragon who had sought out and stole the entire horde.
I didn't think much of that name until I did another playthrough of Arcanum, and heard Bates say, "By Alberich!" and remembered that Alberich was revered as god of the Dwarves in the game. I'm curious as to what other famous names are in the game, or what other character types are based in Germanic poems.

Well, there are many famous characters, but I think only Alberich is from German poems.

Er... Some of the places in arcanum is named after REAL places. Roseborough, Ashbury, and the ring of Brodgar is of course the stone hinge.

Heh. Now I think Tarant is named after Toronto.

I've actually noticed a number of similarities to England, with Stone Henge being the big give away. A lot of places over here are named the same, and much of the legends and lore from here are similar as well.

For instance, the occurence of all the shipwrecks found in the game is quite similar to England's, and the massive amounts of wrecks off her coasts. Plus, Edward Teach was a pirate named Blackbeard who started out in England.
