You can pretty much choose what ever is going to happen. So what happends if you:
    - Don't go to Elder Jakob (or what Virgil's friend's name is)
    - Or give the ring or sell it to someone (or just drop it on the ground).
    - Kill or choose to not take Virgil with you.
    - Kill "the boy"
    - Virgil leaves you later on the game. I don't remember why but I never saw him again. Where did he go? Why? Can he join you again?
    - What's the easiest way to be evil but still doing quests (need xp)?

Forum question. Why the hell is the text and background white? I have to highlight the text to see what I just wrote.

Well, thy only way I managed to avoid Joachim was killing Virgil in the beginning. :/ Though, it's no fun.

You can throw away the ring, and still get to "the boy", and kill him, and still go on with the main quest.

Virgil leaves after Tsen-Ang. He goes to Caladon and you can find him in the basement of the Sobbin Onion. Yes, he can join you again.

You can be evil, and still do the good quests. You can extort people for more money, or even provoke them into fighting you during the dialog when you get xp and rewards.

Also, you can always take Sold Your Soul background or repeatedly put the Dark Helm on. (-20 to alignment, permanent)

    re: ring

    RING
I remember reading somewhere that if you sold the ring, you should be able to get it back later. But this doesn't seem to be so. With Bug Fix Patch(?) it had a fix for selling the ring. It turns out that the haggle skill was backwards - the higher the skill the less you get for it. So I tried it and found that the punk must have tossed it into the river. It doesn't matter too much for finding Schuyler's and Bates. Sometimes Bates will buy it from you though, sometimes not.

    BATES ("The Boy")
There are two nasty things you can do to Bates: kill him or steal his diary to expose him. If you do the former, you may qualify for a Tarant-in-Chaos Ending (if you don't help Don Throgg)! I believe Teach will still take you to the Isle of Despair. If you do the latter, he flees but sends hit men after you similar to Molocheans (does the dwarf assassin come with Basic Machined Plate?). Word seems to get out that you had a hand in either, reducing your reputation. Also, one or both cause a realtor to show up to sell you his mansion, which improves your reputation.

    JOACHIM & VIRGIL
I thought the two were related. You couldn't find the former without visiting the latter after he leaves you. Anyway, I've finished the game without Virgil, no problem.

thanks all. Just some more questions:

I found Tollo before it was ment to find him. I was never trown down the pit, I was just walking randomly to the stairs and they were already speaking of the wastelands. Does this affect the story/game?

I want Gar to join me. But, when I speak to Gar, he says I need to pay that guy some gold or something. But when I speak to him, there is no option about setting Gar free.

What do I need to do for the orcs for their rights? I don't want to kill whole tarant and Caladon.

I think I found a bug. No, I know I found a bug. I've read though many arcanum pages about everything like hints, bugs and so, but this were not there on the list.
Anyhow the bug let me to go though walls. I was about to pickpocket a key from someone. I started moving and while moving I pressed pick pocket and on that guy. I dragged the key from his inventory to the small circle with yourself on in the left corner and the character just continued moving. Though everything. Walls, ect. I think he even could go out the water but I didnt wait that long.

Ohh yea. The body of water spell, It really allows you to go on water? And your followers then?

Is it possible later in game to find out about Virgil's friends. That one on the grave yard and Joachim?

You know the bridge between Tarant and Black Root? Try to find it (no world map use) and you will only find unknown textures or whatever you cant see anything there and worldmap travel makes the game crash. Bug?

I have that lousy Tollo thief in my group. If I tell him to wait he does not want to join me again. I need him for pick locks. But I cant get him to pick pocket stuff. Is it possible? And I wanted to spend a fate point on critical succes on pick locks but instead tollo tried and failed and jammed the lock. I wana use my fate point on that! And "#Back off" didnt work.

I can only have 6 followers. What do I need to do so I can have more? They are funny. I sux in combat. With and without Arcanum trainer. My charistma cant be higher then 20 :/

If you're good, you are never supposed to meet him. If you're evil, well, I don't know how may this affect the game, although you can go straight to Vendigroth after talking to Kuan Hua even without going to the Dernholm Pit, so there shouldn't be any problem.

I want Gar to join me. But, when I speak to Gar, he says I need to pay that guy some gold or something. But when I speak to him, there is no option about setting Gar free.

What do I need to do for the orcs for their rights? I don't want to kill whole tarant and Caladon.
You need to talk with the gnome (halfing?) politic, named Babcoc ore something like that (in front of the fabric) about the situation, and end the speach in some moment (don't remmber which line exactly, but somewhere around speaking about Donn Throgg). It is important to end the speach in the middle of it, because after you end it and start again, you will have the option to ask what to do and he will tell you, and if you ask during the first time, he will say there nothing to do to help, without any chance to change his mind.

Where did it exactly happen? Can you do it everywhere? Maybe it just a place with non-material walls? (a guess actually)

AFAIK it actually doesn't allow you to be Jesus.

About his brother, to be strict.

Never heard about it. I think I will check in a moment what you're talking about.

I don't know about Tollo, but I do know your fate points work only on yourself.
For example: I once had the possibility "followers skills" cheked. I used a fate point on critical success in lockpick. However Magnus was lockpicking instead of me (bacause he had the little bonus typical for dwarfs). He could make it, only when I disabled follower skills I could lockpick myself and just then did that fate point work.

Being an expert in persuation gives you +2 maximum followers. A Caladon Magical Guard Thingy Chainmail in a locked guard basement in Caladon gives you +1 maximum follower. Also some followers can be free bacause of certains bugs specific for them.

It's actually a strip of shallow water going across the river.
(Yes, I hunted it down with WorldEd.)

I don't know why your game crashes.

About that Blackroot-Tarant bridge - are we talking about the nearist bridge-marked area on the world map between Blackroot and Tarant? or is it something else?
If it's it, I wandered searching for the "bridge", thinking it will be a thin piece of land connecting two parts of the continent or some shallow water, and when I found it, I was shocked, that it wasn't a "bridge" - it was a bridge! A wooden bridge. That I didn't actually expect. Troika did put the effort to put a bridge, knowing, that usual Arcanum players won't bother to find it because it would make no sense to them. However it is there. Sure, the shadows on the water around it are crappy, but it does exist. Like, wow. The suprise is still strongly working on me. :D

I searched the river from Blackroot to the oxbow, but all I ever found was the strip of shallow water. :/

I just real-time searched the same area for several miles in both directions and there's no bridge in the English version.
    (Ignore the white strip)

    Here's what's on my map:

Strange. o_O I dought the polish team would bother to implement the missing bridge, cos, well, for what would they do so? They translated all text and graphic signes, but I don't think they edited such details in game world. What would be the sense of it. My Arcanum version is 1.0.7.0 PL, so it sounds kind of ridiculous, but maybe Troika removed the bridge between versions 1.0.7.0 and 1.0.7.4 (but than again - WHY??).

BTW - WTF is the Bradybuck and what are those unnamed locations on the see? Has it something to do with some mode, like Car Arcanum ore something?

 Yeah, you could say that.
It's still going by the name of Arcanum: Work in Progress.
Version 2.2 was released at the end of October. The thread is in Module Discussion.

Brandybuck is a halfling community built to showcase the hobbit-holes and such I was able to create.
    (......Bradybuck?......)

The unnamed locations are where I have yet to build anything.

As for the differences: I have no idea. Perhaps a different main map was used for the American version.

I didn't install any mod, nor been interested so far in any, including Car Arcanum, therefore I don't know everything about the diffrences between it and the normal game, and I may lack some information being obvious for modding fans. n_n
Just a spelling mistake. I was whinking Brandy, while writing Brady.
I think the polish version is just a polonisation patch which still uses the normal (american) world map as a basis. So that bridge thing is at least suprising.

    This is my bridge!

Crashes when either fast traven from that location or continue out to that place.

Also, You know the go trough wall bug while pick pocketing? I was unable to record the bug because Fraps and ZD Soft Game Recorder failed. So I made 2 screen shoots after walking from Caladon just straight out in the water. As you can see this made me stuck, no fast travel and I pressed the stop walking button.

BTW. I actully found the wooden bridge. I had to go towards it from anther location.
    Using EN version.

And another thing. I freed the elf from the lizard people and got another follower. But now I wanna kill the poachers but they arent at their camp :(. Where Can I find them?

    1. You've got to pretty much threaten P.T.Barnum (whatever his name).

    2. Happens all the time. I pretty much stop my character moving first or right click to bring him back where he's supposed to be. Other in-the-walls glitches (like Wheel Clan) are unrecoverable.

    3. I read that too, but no. The water tiles are marked as not walkable. period.

    4. Thanks for reminding me about Tollo. Other than the void guys, and Doc, he's one follower I haven't checked out. Maybe take away his lockpicks?

    5. The game is set with a limit of 7 "formal" followers. To get the 7th you need something that gives you "maxfollowers + 1." Bugfixpatch changed Caladon Crusading Chain to have +1. I changed the Teacher background from -1 to +1. I also added the Amulet of Leadership (+1) to King Farad. Now there are 4 "free" followers: Dante, Dog, Thorvald, Jormund. And you can grab other temporary and free followers too, say with spells.

    1. So you mean I need to be ugly?

    3. Strange. Why does it even say walknig on water becomes avaible then?

    4. Nopp. Even without picklocks he still tries to pick the lock.
BTW. I don't need it now, found the key, You know the Safe at Tarant that noone ever opened? I use to use a fate point to open it, it was til this run I noticed that you can get a key.

    5. Can I edit my background instead? But I don't know how :S. I've searched though my arcanum folder with no result.

    Also, a new possible bug:
I helped someone sad to get her ring back. Then after 1,5 years, someone in that town said (rumor selection) that "that person" seams to be sad about some lost ring. Even though the quest was completed 1,5 years ago (in-game time)

Also, what is planting items for? Sneack to someone and put a shit load of crap in their inventory to slow them down in combat?
Placing bombs in them inventory? You can remote them?

    1. The guy's name is H.T.Parnell. He's the person standing next to Gar. He is Gar's owner. You have to persuade him to release Gar. Your uglieness can only cause a bad reaction from him. Understand?

    2. It's probably something dropped from the game due to the shortage of budget/time. It's a common thing in Arcanum.

    3. Turn the follower skills off if you don't want him to pick the locks for you. I think it's a sort of a bug, Virgil did that to me once.

    4. You can edit your background. http://www.terra-arcanum.com/phpBB/dload.php Find the backgrounds.zip. It has detailed instructions on how to edit and make new backgrounds.

As for the rumors, they always remain the same, whether you complete the quests or not. At least, that's how it works here on my computer.

Planting items is basically only as a sort of a cheat. Example: the trash seller in Dernholm wears a Thieves Leather Armor, which, if you go to Dernholm before Tarant, is the best leather armor you can get during the early stage of the game. You can plant the shitty Studded Leather in his inventory, and some script will automatically equip him with that armor, putting the Thieves Leather in the inventory. You can than easily pickpocket him and acquire yourself a fine piece of armor. (I know that Studded Leather gives you better protection, but it's also 350 stone (if I'm not mistaken) heavier)

Also, there is a thing, you can place hexed items in someone's inventory. It can eventually kill that someone, without him or her going postal on your ass. You can then loot their corpse and ressurect them, and they can remain in the game playing their role as a shopkeeper/guard/master of something. :D
