All I can think of is that your reaction is too low. Try to get a smoking jacket to up your reaction.
Where do I get that smoking jacket? My alignment is -80. Quite odd that bad guys attack against bad guys...
It is your reaction not your alignment. If you move your cursor over someone you will get this info box with there HP, fatigue and there reaction to you. You can find a smoking jacket in the tailor in Tarant. If you are any thing other than an elf they have a low reaction to you and if you have "sold your soul" then it will be even lower. It all may push it down to a reaction of 0 if your Beauty is low as well which is hate and they will attack. I had the same problem in the boil. You may have to buy your Beauty up as well.

If you are evil, no problem. If you are good, it can be a delema. It's only one evil point, but then again.... 1 point of prowl & 2 of lockpick will do the job, but not without a few F7s & f8s.
