I swear you can change your order of bootup devices either in BIOS or during bootup. I have an ASUS P3V4X which shows a selectable bootup screen if I interrupt the bootup sequence. The same place should also allow you to boot from CD if your motherboard supports that.

Yes, of course, but XP lets you do the same without any hassle. You get an option which system you wanna use at start up.

Wow, mine was 718.34 kilobytes per second... thanks for the tip matah-something. now if only I could get my 1.8gh processor to start acting like one... oh well, its not actually mine anyway. good news is I got a job! So now i can actually quit saving everything and splurge a little because I'm a waiter now (tips tips tips! thank you jesus!(average nightly tips where I work are 60 dollars on a weeknight 125 on a friday or saturday!))

But anyway, my friend was explaining to me that a 1ghz mac will run faster than a 2 ghz pc? is this true? He also mentioned something to me about these pc emulator programs that let you run windows on macs... If thats true then i'm thinking of saving a power book or something. I was wondering if any of you guys knew anything about this stuff?

Maybe he's just had more things to say than you.

Anyway, that test says my computer's speed is 22kb/s. :-o

Must be my 56k bothering it, because my computer SHOULD be at 2.4gb/s.

Speed test: Test your Internet connection, view test statistics, and even add a test to your site.

It doesn't test the speed of your PC, it tests the speed of your internet connection.

Let me tell you something. A jug that is half full makes more noise, or a brain that is half full talks more.

this is not made for gaming, but a cheap computer for 2d and 3d - thus the GF over a Radeon. Also the chassi is somewhat weak, only 2x120mm fans, and pretty ugly to boot, but I and a friend got some plans for a better ones , so that one is TMP. Vent your opinions over it if you want, I'll listen.

I'd get it. My new computer is a "cheapy" (well, at $2,000 Australian). Only got a Radeon 9200, but things like a TV Tuner card (sweeet), 256 MB memory stick USB pen, 2 x 80 GB HDD and 1 Gig of RAM make it work nicely. Yeah, the P4 2.4 Ghz processor is nice too. Only installed Windows XP Home on it last night and then played GTA 3.

I had actually tried to install Win '98 on it originally but kept getting all sorts of error messages (namely some problem with user.exe and telling me I had to re-install windows).

Pretty nice computer there monkey. And as if it wouldn't put most gamers (well, non-hardcore ones but still gamers) machines to shame. I know I sure as hell haven't splashed out on a Barton. DU, I put my machine together for 2 grand, and I wouldn't call it a cheapie.

No, this is before I installed XP. I tried 98. It just didn't work. :( I *might* try installing Win 98 on my other HDD later, but I do still have my old PC with 98 on it, so it might be a moot point. Reason I tried 98 is because I just didn't want to get XP. Now that I've got XP, I'm happy with it though. Heh, go figure.

XP is fine. I tried out all the OS's and found it most stable. I'm sure that's less than 2k if you can actually install every driver on it that you need.

Home is a shit version of XP though, you should try getting pro or corporate.
