I need to tell him that the real king of dernhelm is on the isle of dispair. Where is he??

 

Weird thing I did the quest and went back to Maximillian and he was just the same and I was ready to bring him back.

Well obviously you can't teleport to the Isle, and train service seems to have been disrupted, so yes it seems boat is your only option.

Hint: it is posible to return to the Isle again & again.

Ah, but you can go back. There's just a trick to it. You also can't have done something. If you've done that, then there truly is no way to return.

That's not a very clear clue gargob. It might've been better just to tell him that gnomes are rotten people and once you know this there's no going back. Once you learn something like that, it's just not tolerable to be around them.
I guess I'm not really one to talk about being clear.

 

okay I went back by not talking to Thorvald and didn't find out about the wheel clan.

 

whilst on the subject, there is a quest for ogdin big fist (my faveourite npc!, just dominate will him), he asks you to obtain a book called 'the hand' where can i get it? ive never looked...

It's in a barrel in front of Teach's ship in Ashbury.

you can get off and go back to the isle as much as you want until you do the main quest there.
