I doubt this has made it out of the US, mainly because nobody gives a crap about basketball, (rightly so!) but anyway, there's this player named Kobe Byrant (or maybe it's Bryant...) who was accused of raping a 19 year old girl. I was putzing around on yahoo, and noticed under the celebrities column or something his name. Intruiged, I clicked it. A list of sites came up, and among them was this one. It's a little scary, but I thought it was somewhat unintentionally funny, so I brung it here! Yay!

A lot of things are bad, but civilized, enlightened societies don't lock people up for it. Or publicly castrate them, or whatever they do to adulterers. I wouldn't even say that adultery IS necessarily a bad thing. Honestly, some of the shit people put up with from their spouse....

Actually the BBC World News has been covering the case with regularity. Obscene media circus in the US usually means obscene media circus worldwide. Check you local PBS to see if you get it there; I highly recommend it. By far my favorite news program, even though it irritated the hell out of me when they spent the whole half hour covering the blackout two days ago.

Oh, the topic. Right. Yes, that's a pretty odd website. I can understand wanting to support your sports hero but if you go all out like that it could come back to bite you in tha ass. I'm inclined to give Kobe the benefit of the doubt until evidence is produced to the contrary, but I'm certainly not going on an "I Support Kobe" crusade. Coincidentally, I'm wearing a Lakers shirt today with Kobe's picture on the back, but I promise I'll take it off if he's guilty. (That didn't sound right....)

At first I believed OJ was innocent as well, but that turned sour soon enough didn't it. Shoulda known, the degenerate went to USC.... Oh, reminds me of something. One year during the week of the UCLA/USC football game, I was walking (at UCLA, of course) past one of the sorority houses (all of which were decorated for the festivities), and it had a sign on the lawn which said, "OJ Went to USC. 'Nuff Said." HA!!!

On the other hand, I fully supported Pete Townshend during his, eh, little crisis. But that was different.

    those dildos are noise makers...

but yeah thats very disturbing, but i'm sure he wont be found guilty, not that i think anyone but a criminal investigator or the victim or kobe himself could have an informed opinion, remember the free winona movement when winona ryder was arrested? its just stupid how people put celebrities on pedestals. hes going to get off scott free.

its not as if the lakers need him this year, they already have shaq, gary payton and karl malone. the truly tragic thing about all this is if kobe gets convicted and the lakers dont win the championship this year all of my friends in california are going to be bitching about how they would have won if he had been playing

I'm not so sure he'll get off. That girl needed stitches in her asshole. Turning your wife into a pez dispenser, ala OJ, is one thing. I'm not so sure Colorado citizens are going to let Kobe off the hook for bloodying a woman's butthole, though.

Did you see what those people said? They were like "OMG SHE'S A NASTY BITCH!!!!11 BURN IN HELL FOR TRYING TO DRAG KOBE (GOD) DOWN!!!!" I was pretty scared there. I don't understand- celebrities already get away with more stuff than they should, get revered way more than they should, and yet they still down act like laws apply to them. "Laws are for... commoners." seems to be a disgusting attitude held by some. I'm not saying he did it (although I believe there's more of a chance that he did) but come on, remember when Mike Tyson raped whatshername Washington? First he said that he didn't, then he said that she deserved it.

Yeah, I hope he's found guilty and recieves a harsh and cruel sentence. The people say "Oh, Kobe could NEVER do that" just need to face the cruel fucking truth: THEY DO NOT KNOW HIM. All they about him is the shit they see on TV; he could be a goddamn pimp but we'd never know BECAUSE WE DON'T KNOW THE REAL KOBE BRYANT. Oh, and everyone who says that the girl made up a false alibi deserves 7 up theirs :x

    Heh
    HE'S HOTT!

    Wow.

I listen to sports talk radio at work and if you think what the average guy on the street is saying re: Kobe's innocence is fucked up, you should hear some sports fans. They mostly echo what AngrySyrian posted above. WTF is wrong with people?

I remember a couple of days after this story first broke when it was starting to be reported that the girl had tried to commit suicide a couple of months before the Kobe incident. I couldn't help but think to myself, "why is this even news?" So what if she tried to commit suicide? What does that have to do with whether she was anally raped or not? Yet people - ubersports fans, especially - we're throwing this fact around like it was some kind of SEE TOLD YOU HE COULDN'T HAVE RAPED HER.

Now I'm hearing it "reported" that some dude knows this chick that went to school with his sister's husband's ex-wife's old high school boyfriend's second cousin was at a party with Kobe's accuser AND HE SWEARS HE HEARD HER SAY SHE WAS GOING TO "STICK IT TO KOBE YOU JUST WATCH" AND STARTED CACKLING LIKE A WITCH I SWEAR!...

Well, that settles it. He couldn't have raped her. HE'S HOTT!

Right... and OJ didn't PEZ his wife because his forehead measures over 23.7 inches in diameter and toilets swirl the other way around in Australia.

EDIT - my grammar's really bad today.

just view it as a comedy site and its a lot less disturbing.

these people are just a bunch of deluded lakers fans that are forming opinions largely revolving around the fact that they are naive, prejudice, ignorant, and deluded fans of the lakers. they have given no information to back their opinions otehr than stating that the accuser is a ho. hooray for reason, this is obviously another victory for proponents of sane thinking.

Honestly, I think that these sorts of matters should be kept private. Justice and media don't mix, simply put. If you look back at the O.J. case you will see that the media interfered and made it easier for the defense to get him off scot-free. I think that the media is interfering now and that the course of justice will be further perverted thanks to the combined efforts of the media and the American justice system. You, by participating in this discussion and sticking your nose where it shouldn't be, are a proponent for this activity to continue. I think we should all stop paying the media circus so much mind and should turn our attentions to problems that affect us at the personal level. The media has its purposes but I think that the American media has become an engine for propaganda and gossip and that it has lost most of its capacity to really inform the public.

No, it was simply the proof that American justice is truly color blind. White or black, it simply does not mater, enough cash and you walk.

Now without the cash, race maters a lot.

Damn it Milo qutoed the same thing I wanted to. Anyway I didn't really know whether to laugh or cry at how incredibly retarded that preson was. If you're good-looking and famous than you can't possibly be a rapist as it is enough that you point your finger at any chick you want and she'll willingfully spread her legs for you. And if she claims she didn't do it willingly she's a lying, ugly hore who should end up in jail herself. God damn, I just hope that one day such morons will get so stupid that they'll forget how to breathe.

EDIT - Read a few more comments and I learned another important lesson. Unless your life's prefect there's no possiblity that you've actually been raped - you just crave for attention.

Major ace up the sleeve of the prosecution's sleeve. Discrediting the accuser to the benefit of the accused. Oldest trick in the book; in truth, the 11th oldest trick in the book. I still wonder at the confusing simplicity of discrediting a witness/plaintiff. I think all lawyers and a lot of judges need to be lined up, shot to death, and then their positions replaced by 18% good ol' boys from the swamp, 22% single mothers whom were raped/beaten/left by men, 15% fathers whom lost their children after a divorce, although they were clearly the better choice for the benefit of the child, but the women just held too much power in the eyes of the courts, 15% newly married couples, struggling to better themselves in this world, 39½% randomly picked, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Alan Colmes (Gasp!! A liberal!!), and me.

what the fuck? good ol'boys from the swamp? bill o'rielly? you? someone i only know as "retard" doesnt really strike me as a good choice for federal judge.

i'd just like to say that if it was anal, it was probably rape, thats my opinion based on nothing other than the fact that the only way i've ever gotten a girl to let me cornhole her was when raped her, er just kidding, but it seems a little extreme for a first date doesnt it? and even if he is an "uberhot sports stud" why would a high class girl, like the ones kobe probably only goes for, want a penis in their ass?

I think that author of that sentence attended "When a woman says no she actually means yes." school.

yeah, but there are better ways to say it, like "no means yes and yes means harder!" or you could put on an arabian accent and shout "IN MY COUNTRY YOU SAY YES!" at the top of your lungs.

    a) Kobe Bryant is not a hero, he's a basketball player. The hero part is separate. He's also a young man with a lot of power. He's going to be doing lots of sexual things outside the bedroom whether or not he's married.

    b) If you don't know Kobe, then you don't know Kobe. ie if you're not a friend relative or close acquaintence, then you don't know him. The media twists everything, the courts don't show his personality. Sitting on your ass watching Fox News is not going to tell you who Kobe Bryant is. Likewise he shouldn't be judged, as a basketball player, by what we percieve to be his personality.

    c) It seems probable that Kobe's accuser is after attention and the like, but on the same token, it's pretty moronic to go around yelling and shouting that she's a dirty hoar, a witch, etc. Obviously there are people who don't know her who will be making political assassinations because they want Kobe off the hook, not because they honestly believe that she's a bitch.

    d) Something's wrong with the way we raise people in this country when grown adults participate in this ignorance and foolery. It's one thing if you're a lawyer, but quite another if you're a fan.

    e) Even with all the commercialism and money and general idiocy running circles around the NBA, basketball is still pretty damn cool. :p
