Is it possible to add techs to backgrounds (ie, want to create a background called "Son of a Smith" and I want to add tech from background to Smithy so I get "Pure ore" ie Novice skillz in smithy from start).

    Highest regards

I think it's only possible to do two things regarding tech knowledge. 1) Give schematics as part of a background, and 2) give expertise as part of a background.

Thus, you can't actually give tech abilities that are inherent to the disciplines, but you can give enough expertise to build the learned schematic you provide.

That way, you can make a character that is predisposed to a certain discipline because of the extra expertise and perhaps have the ability to build something that involves that discipline.

Eg. You might want to create a chemist interested in the electrical properties of matter, and give your character +10 in the chemistry and electrical disciplines and a 'lemon and potato charges' schematic.

There aren't learned schematics in the editor, are there?? Can you give starting characters a pure ore schematic??

whats so great about pure ore? magnus can make it for you! just get on his good side and let him join te party level him up a little bit and then kick him out. you can still just walk up to him and get him to rejoin everytime you need pure ore

I stopped speaking to Magnus after my second time through the game. That still doesn't answer my question.

I suppose actually looking at the editor for yourself is out of the question? Of course, doing so would do nothing for your post count.

The editor contains only found schematics. Thus no pure ore. You could give a new character a lump of pure ore through a background if you wish, but not the schematic. Otherwise ask Magnus for some or find it someplace. The thieves hideout in the sealed sewers always has some.
