How is it that sometimes when you kill a shop keeper or a wise woman eg the wise woman in shrouded hills that you cann't get access to their unventory after they die.

I mean you talk to the woman and can buy stuff from her, but when she dies there is no gaining access to what she has. how is this possible? should she not have an inventory source? wouldn't this then show all she had on her when she died? if this is not the case then where is her inventory source? and how do i do it so that if my shopkeeper dies, i can prevent [layers from stealing stuff? is this a source-less inventory?

Most if not all of the shopkeepers in the game have a treasure chest nearby that they are using as a substitute inventory. What that means is, every time their inventory is accessed by the trade and barter command, instead of going to whats on their person, you are instead shown the contents of the treasure chest. Notice how when you go to pick the pocket of a shopkeeper, they tend to have very little on them. Their inventory is linked to something else in the room.

In order to set your shops up like this, you must right click on the NPC, click on "Remember for substitute", then click on the chest in question, and go to "Set substitute inventory." This will prevent players from stealing from your person, unless they pick that chest. If you want to make the chest invisible or otherwise inaccessable, after you create it and you are SURE that you're done tinkering with it, right click on the chest, go to properties, then click on the art box. Select the one with nothing showing (blank blue box) and voila--you have an invisible and incorporal inventory source!

    Hope it helps!
