Hello! I was wondering about calculation for experience points. I'm under the impression that every time my character damages another, he ought to receive some experience points (likewise for killing someone and completing quests). However, looking at my character editor, the "exp to next level" value doesn't seem to change every time I cast my harm spell and kill one of the incredibly powerful ailing wolves. The value would stay at, say, 1833, and leap to 1700+ suddenly after I've killed several bad guys. So, my question is, is that supposed to happen? Perhaps some hidden mechanics to experience calculation that I wasn't aware of? Thanks for the help. Rabbilyn
To be honest, I've never been observant enough to notice that. Ailing wolves don't give you so much experience so that could be why you're not seeing much difference. I'm not sure exactly how experience is calculated, but you get experience for every time you hit something and every time a member of your party kills something.
When you damage something, when anyone in your party kills something, and for quests. Look at the bubbles & skinny bar under the picture part of the screen. You will see the bar move after every Harm. It is the pictorial representation of your EX point advancement. Ailing Wolves are a minor twitch. Except when you are < 5th level.
well, if Dem and Shady are too rude to welcome you, then i geuss it's up to me......... welcome :wavey:.
Welcome to the board I decided that experience was generated completely at random, because my exp bar never changed, I just went until I leveled, it doesn't really seem to matter, as Arcanum is one of the few games that you don't really need to just wander around killing baddies to level up... Just do quests of the lots variety.
Do you even get points for damage done by Harm? Or is it one of those things like Molotov cocktails that only gives credit for kills, not damage. Yes I'm too lazy to whip up a mage and find out for myself.
your character gets MORE points for hitting baddies. You also get SOME points when your party hits. By the way its a BIG difference like 5% of what it would be if you hit them, Thats why I have my guys wait and I do the fighting for most of the battles. Just watch the bottom bar and when it gets ready for the next level reform your group so as all of you level up. There is a list that shows what the total exp learned per level of what you kill. Like: baddie level 1 160xp level 2 200 level 5 340 level 10 620 level 30 2180 level 40 3420 level 50 5100 These are total exp gained per monster. If you do the hitting you get the total. If your party hits its divided between your total party size. Any help to you? Parmanian said that
Hmm where did you get this? I was quite sure that the EXP you gain is mostly for the ammount of damage done, with a bonus for each kill made by you or your followers (while you don't get anything for the damage inflicted by your followers). I mean if you shoot your Tesla gun at the ailing wolf and hit him for 100 points of damage when it only has 40, you get EXP for 100 points of damage+kill, not 40 points+kill
Xp_critter.mes, specifically. I wasn't aware that you got ANY points for damage done by followers. Parmanian seems to be the only Arcanum player to have noticed this. Hmm.
Wow, thanks for the abundant reply! I'll take careful notice to the exp bar from now on, but I've definitely noticed a lack of exp increase when looking at the "exp to next level" value in the character editor. Nonetheless, I'm feeling much more at ease since so many expert players will vouch for the accuracy of the experience point system.
