There's another file you need to extract from the zip, xp_level.mes. Stick it in your Data\Rules directory. Create the directory if it doesn't exist.

There should not be a file in the zip archive called "rules", not if we're talking about the same cap remover. IIRC the files in the archive are already arranged according to path name, so you might be looking at the directory.

Put the file "xp_level.mes" in the directory Data\Rules of your main Arcanum directory, wherever that may be.

Forgive me if I seem a little thick, because i am. There is no folder called "data/rule" but there is one called "data" in this folder it has folders called "players" and "proto", "players" is empty or appears so, "proto" hase a bunch of stuff in it. the file from the zip had a "rules" floder in it that has a file called x_level.mes
So I am going to leave the downloaded "rules" folder with the file X_Level.mes in the Data file.

    have I confused you yet?????

Yes you have confused me, so rather than try to make much sense of what you just posted I will instead explain it another way.

I know there is no folder called "data\rules". If you did a typical installation there should be, in c:\, a directory called Sierra. Sierra has a directory called Arcanum, which has a directory called Data, which has a directory called Rules. If the Rules directory does not exist within the Data directory, you will need to create it. Within this (perhaps newly created) Rules directory, you will be placing the xp_level.mes file. Simple.

I was under the impression that the zip file for this stupid hack already contained all the path names, in which case you could just unzip it and have the subdirectories created automatically if necessary. I could be mistaken though, it's not like I've looked at the damn thing recently.

If there's one thing I've learnt from Mister Rogers it's patience. PATIENCE, I SAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
