How do you get this stupid thing to move???

I just got the ship from that dead guy and I can steer toward somewhere but the ship itself does not move. All I can find is the wheel, nothing that indicates an anchor or anything that is hold this thing to the dock... I go back to pick up my Captian and I cannot convince him to come back with me...

Help would be appeciated

uhhh god i had that problem too there is a solution though i think just go to world map and then u can sail to the island

 

try standing in front of the wheel...it didn't work when I just clicked on it

 

when you click on the helm, it should say something like 'steer towards black root', or other towns, you click on the place youu want to go to, it should go there. if it doesn't, try going somewhere else first. hope this helps
