I'm a dwarf gunsel with a hunting rifle at level 14. Somehow I lost Virgil along the way and picked up this prima donna of a Scotchman (not bad with his axe, though). We're at Black Mountain mines in the service of Gilbert Baines. We dealt with the putrids and the pixies, but I can see ahead to some kind of giant kangaroo at level 50, and a couple of rocky looking bruisers at equally high levels. No way a coupla shrimps like us gonna deal with them muthas. How do we play it?

There's nothing at level 50 in there. You probably mean the granite-rats.

Level 14 is way too soon to be doing the BMC mines, especially with just you and that annoying runt Magnus. Perhaps you would consider leveling up a bit more and coming back, perhaps with some more friends. Dog is quite handy to have about. :)

Or you could always sneak/run past all the baddies as well as you can.

I'm with you! We can scarcely manage all the dopey wolves, much less the spry ones. But we did manage to stumble on Stillwater: anything doing there for a coupla likely lads such as ourselfs?

Well, you COULD to the job for the town blacksmith and find the town mage. He is in a ogre cave (you can find footprints leading to it from his house), but the ogre that comes out is quite a fighter! I'm not sure if level 14 will do it.

I'd say go to Tarant and do some easy jobs such as running errands around for all the lazy citizens. In the BMC, RUN from enemies, stay on the main roads (don't take turns unless it is a T turn), and keep going left and up. That is the way it is layed out. Always take the left, upper passages and tunnels and you should be fine.

Can be done at 14, but need Expert in your combat skills & have magic weapons, even as backup if you are tech. Also by a mage with Harm at 50% MA or so with two Mage Staves or better. A battlemage should have SoP & AoF &/or Haste. The techie, two Charged Rings & Janya along for potions. The archer mage Entangle or Stun.

And they all would have Dog.

    Seen Ashbury yet?

the best place to do some early leveling up is the tarant sewers, use a melle weapon though as ammo get's expensive.

    speaking of sewers ...

..., how do I get into the locked portions? I've cleaned up the open portions, save for the two thieves who were too tough for me.

There is a long jetty of the wise woman. There is a little structure at the end of it. I wonder if there could be anything inside?

If the pair in the open sewers were too hard, what level were you then? Have you tried turn based combat? (TBC) Things are eaiser that way.

Ammo isn't that expensive. And why a hunting rifle??? A self-made revolver is much better, leaving alone the fact that you couls steal a sharpshooter's pistol or a hand cannon in Tarant or even a looking glass rifle in Ashbury. Oh and those Granite Rats and Ore Golems absolutely love Molotov, if you have any, throw it all at them.

    black mountain mines

the self made revolver is far superior to a hunting rifle also you can buy potions of haste from the bag ladies in tarant and smothered hills( I think that is it) you need to develop molitive cocktails, you can find rags in every trash bin in tarant and buy fuel at gen stores, it seemed to me that you dont get as much experiance when you use a molitive cocktail though

excuse the spelling, I fired my secratary

    many thanks, but ...

... where in Tarant do I find a decent firearm? The gun shop has some pretty standard items, but nothing that makes your heart sing. And is there any point to making the revolver? I carrying a couple now as backup (the Doc back in Shrouded Hills gave me one). What I need now is a *silenced* weapon; the ghouls in the closed area of the sewers (Thanks! I could have looked for a hundred years!) come arunning at the first shot, and they are bad hats. You were quite right about the pair of thieves in the sewers with public access: mere punks at level 14! Looking forward to using the Molotov cocktails...

Jeeze, this Magnus is a pill! Maybe I'll try out a Cocktail on him!

    Regards,
    O.

Well, the gunsmith has a Sharpshooter's Pistol on him, and Sammie White in Kensington Park has a very nice Hand Cannon. If you're into 2-handed weapons, Thorndop in Ashbury has a Looking Glass Rifle just waiting to be pilfered.

Canis, you're a peach! Magnus and me, we're gonna get us some GUNS! Then we gonna do VI-OH-LENCE to our alignments! No more Mr. Nice Guy! Tough enough bein a midget without tryin to be a white hat too.

The train will get you to Ashbury. Save as soon as you get there & find a Gnome kicking a dog to death. Save the dog. First thing.

Don't give Magnus a gun. He has only 1/4 point in firearms, just enough to maybe hit a barn & waste a lot of ammo. Volinger, in Dernholn can make guns, including a silenced revolver.

Oh, I probably should've mentioned: for the love of Nasrudin don't kill Thorndop for the gun; he's the firearms master trainer and you'll need him later. Just pick his pocket for it, use a fate point if you have to. :)
