There are some really sick people in the world. A trial just concluded here about Ainlee Walker whose parents abused her until she died at the age of two. Maybe there have always been sick people like this around, but I think maybe the trend towards isolation instead of community is making it easier for things like this to go unnoticed for long periods of time.

The couple downstairs from me and Lysa frequently have massive arguments. They get loud and sometimes when I hear the guy shouting and things being thrown around, I think I should go down and check that his girlfriend is okay, but I never actually do. If she got hurt one day, it would be partly my fault I think, cos I could stop it but haven't.

 

Is he bigger than you? If not, then you can go be the white knight...if the lady downstairs doesn't take offense to that, of course. Do you even know them well enough to intervene. You may be saving her from a horrible fate, but you'll also look like an ass in the process I think.

My solution? Soundproof your apartment. Ignorance is bliss (I really hope someone gets this joke).

 

I'd hate to think I'd only help someone at no risk to myself. Embarassment is the one and only reason I haven't gone down there so far. The socialised/self-applied pressure not to intrude on their private life, no matter how loud it gets, is proving to be a stronger force then I would have thought.

The irony is that when we first moved in, they asked us to be a bit quieter late at night, cos we were disturbing their attempts to sleep. We politely agreed (despite the fact I thought it a bit unreasonable to expect silence in an apartment block in the middle of London). Since then, there have been several outbreaks of mayhem in their apartment in the wee hours of the morning.

 

They should strap tiny little bombs to each finger and toe and BOOM! Then they should have some person rap her with a stick! Then dump her in the sea in a box.

 

Sheriff, I encounter domestic situations almost weekly in the military housing I patrol. To many times we have to take into custody a good samaritan, who tried to intervene peacefully, but who ended up inflaming the situation. The best thing for you and Lysa to do is call the police, they are equipped and trained to deal with the situation. I completly understand your reluctance to call the cops on your neighbors, but it's better than putting up with their bullshit or worse yet, an injury or death.
If the police are involved multiple times the courts can implement temporary stay away orders, counseling, etc. After awhile, even the stupidest couples get the message.

 

Reading this made me think about 3 things mainly a) how can someone be that evil, prolly what u all thinknig allready. b) sherif your neighbors are fucking awfull neighbors, asking you to be quiet and then shouting matches past 12 midnight? hypocracy in the extreme, call the cops on thier ho asses, if ur scared ask to remain anonamous. c) Why is there no variation on murder 1? if you shoot someone in the back of the head once from point blank that's murder 1, if you kidnap, torture, starve, beat, rape and THEN kill someone that's murder 1 aswell, surely the latter deserves some kind of elaborately gruesome punishment.
