Here's what happened : I found the guy in Ashbury , talked to him , he agreed to train me if I save the short guy's wife. I found the band and they all came after me at a bunch. I blew them using dynamite . . . I didn't even see the short guy's wife , but afterwards as I talked to the firearms master it turned out that she's died. He couldn't bear it and killed himself. I loaded the game and wanted to try to wack the bandits in a more civil way. Here's where the problem is - after loading the game at a place where I haven't yet talked to the guy every time I load it and I start the dialog after " Hey , you are the Firearms master! " I don't get at all the " Would you train me ? " option. I looked many times. It just ain't there ! Respectively the short guy doesn't appear after I finish talking to the tall guy and I can't get the quest. This is so weird !
Check your firearms skill & PE. If they are not at certan levels, he won't train you. Are you patched?
Well, I think I can help a bit. If you load the game and the discussion doesn't appear, it may be because you first need to talk with him about the Halcyon order and all that religious stuff... then talk about the training. Then, beware about saving the halfling's wife... I've never had a problem, but since one day it started to happen a bug where, when I reach the barn all the members of the Willenbecker gang shot the halfling's wife before I can do anything. So I would recommend that if that happens you start turn combat mode before they can see you and advance to them in turn combat mode... also the halfling's wife is at the end of the barn with a half-ogre that's beating her, you may kill the ogre first.
I'm so stupid ! You were quite right that I should check my PE/FA levels. The save that I kept loading over and over again was just before talking to the guy and just before actually spending the skill points on perception/firearms. If you haven't told me to check it I would have never guessed that I need to do so - because all the other teachers that I met used to prompt me if the skill level wasn't high enough. Many thanks. I didn't have a problem saving the wife and completing the quest. The knack is to enter the barn through the door and not through the left side of the building. Thus the big greenish bandit stops beating the wife and comes after you. In the Dante topic one of you I think said that apart from Dante there are two more free followers - Worthless Mutt and Jormund. In Ashbury I came across what seems to be a killed dog called Worthless Mutt. Is that it ? Should I find a healer , buy the "bring back to life thing " and try it on the dog ?
Yes, that's Dog. You must have missed rescuing him on your first visit to Ashbury. If you want him, you should get some sort of back-to-life device (scroll or funky inkwell doodad) immediately, as I believe his corpse disappears after 24 game hours.
This is my first visit to Ashbury. I won't be able to revive it as I don't have a back-to-life-thing on me and there isn't a healer's store in Ashbury. I thought to go back to Tarant and buy , but it won't work if the corpse disappears as you say.
I got it ! I have a save at the very beginning of each town that I go to. I loaded the Ashbury save , ran straight to the spot where I found it , talked to the guy who was beating him and now it keeps walking after me just like in Fallout 2. It's so cool ! In which city should I look for the Jormund guy ? I don't wanna miss him too , coz I'd definately had screwed up the dog thing if it wasn't you.
I don't know if Jormund is really worth it... that's why he's free. I mean, the bastard is master at Fire and Force! But to dwarves the spells drain twice mana than to any other race. The good thing is that he has the Staff of Xoranth. Don't worry, a gnome won't kick Jormund to death. You just need to finish a quest to get him.
There isn't? I think there's both a magickal dealer who might sell scrolls of resurrection, and also a tech apothecary who might have a 300-stone Inkwell of Life for you. Still, you got Dog anyway, so never mind.
You are quite right again. The magic shopkeepers don't even wanna talk to me and even start fighting if I persist on trying , but I found the tech healer in town. The reason why I missed her is because in the house that is next to hers there is an elfish chick that starts attacking me on sight and I guess that I was running the first time that I passed by.
Thorvald, a Dwarf on the Isle of Dispair, is also free, but there is this little trick.... No, not the Dwarf.
