My techno-gunsligner made some machined plate last night using his featherweight chain as a base. The machined plate turned out to weigh 1000 as opposed to the featherweight chain weighing about 200. Now, my guy is stuck with a medium encumberance even with a minimal amout of gear. I thought the machined plate would bump his strength, but it didn't. Is this a bug? Otherwise, since I don't want to pump any more points is strenght (its already 14 now), I'll have to go back to the chain (or look more closely at the elite plate. Any comments?

I don't remember what they called it, a bug or an oversight or whatever, but no the machined plate doesn't give a strength bonus. If you'd really like it to, you can download the small "MACHINED PLATE MODIFICATION" on the following webpage:

You know if the modification also gives the bonus to the Large and small machined platemail? ...Yes it'll be ass-kicking an Ogre with the +3 strength bonus, but I want to know.

Why do you even bother making a plate armor for gunslinger? A good gunslinger should be able to take down enemies before they even have a chance to come close? :)
I used the gnomish chainmail because it was the lightest and gave somewhat good armor class

My guy is a firearms master wielding either the hand cannon or the LGR. With those weapons, even if I initiate combat very early, it seems that I'm always swarmed. Even if I initiate combat at the very edge of the screen, it only takes the critters about a round to get me and while I might be able to get one, his buddies still come a callin'. Maybe I need better firepower. I just got the mitral ore so tonight I'll build the that gun that starts with a "B" and give it a try. You're point, however, is well taken and I might just keep the featherweight chain. I haven't found the gnomish chain you referred to yet, but will start looking.

When I played through the game as a technologist, my favorite weapons was (barring the Flame Thrower) the Looking Glass Rifle. As Firearms master I could be reasnoble sure to hit my tarket and cause a lot of damage. My preferred tactic was to sit back and plug away. If I got swarmed I would lob and Explosive Grenade a my enemies. 9 out of 10 times it would hit one of them (I had out only one point into my Throwing skill) and more often then not I would be facing severly reduced opposition.

Try the lowly hushed relvolver. Only the one you hit will come running, & then you finish him off with the HC.

i find that gunfighters also benefit from learning the electric tree. the +4 dx from the charged rings is excellent. the chapeau of magnetic inversion gives good defense for its light weight and doesnt harm perception. the tesla gun is awesome (10-80 electrical damage).
