When i first got arcanum i wanted to try the summoner, then after i got rocked by wolves i said the hell with it and made a beasty half ogre... now i rarely die.... and when i do its cause i misclick and go right in the middle of 3 huge enemies...the game being easy isnt good though because i get so sick of my melee character so fast......bah, y cant it be more balanced for the mages.... and dont get me started on archer or fire arms characters.....wtf is with a limated amount of ammo u can buy? what do i do when i run out and the stores have none left.......do i use a railroad spike?!?!
1) All mages should go for the Harm spell initially or some melee ability for early combat. 2) ammo is NOT THAT BAD. Try Fallout- they've got thirty different kinds. 3) quit whining. No one cares about your half-ogre. They don't even get many quests- racism is a problem in Arcanum (the world, not the game). 4) If you want to play the most interesting character, go for a sorcerer in Black Necromantic (at least Harm), SUmmoning, FOrce, and COnveyance. If you're feeling REALLY adventurous, try Mind and Meta while you're at it- but only late in the game. GO for combat and trade skills early. You're welcome. - Etalis
bah what kind of game is it when a mage cant be a mage and has to resort to figthing skills? thats like a sorc actually hitting people with her staff in diablo 2...im just saying that the game is unbalanced......and wtf u mean i cant get quests cause of racism.......lol!..just do the first blessing quest just north of the crash site....it gives tons of + reaction to everyone u meet
Force is a good college, but it costs too much. AS for the half-ogre racism issue, it's negated if you buy more Beauty points but don't bother, no skills use beauty. Anyway, the melee only character is just not interesting. At the least, buy some skill in SMithy so you can get your own weapons (Balanced Sword is kick ass!) -Etalis
well lets just say that it helps to have 1 or 2 points in dodge, and even melee. more so on lower levels when you don't have all that fatigue to spend. you do not need it, its not a class bases system, so there is nothing called unbalanced about class, as there is no class. some skills and stats are better then otherer though, mostly for a walkthrough people wont deal with anyone, they will not give you quests depening on race(well it can probably be overlooked with the help of charisma and beauty so, they can still neglect you from quests anyway some quests are real easy for someone with a few points in Persuasion, it doesn't say though that its unbalanced, as every one can get it, and it doesn't allways help. and the thing is that a pure neutral fighter is not the best character in the game the best melee character is probably a mage fighter also a tech character with the tranq gun, and granades is pretty fine as well. and well a summoner with +100 in magick aptitude ownz as well, you can have 5 ogres with level 30 walkin arround doing hefty damage. _________________ [ This Message was edited by: monkeypunch on 2001-09-05 07:57 ]
The easiest char i have played with is a warrior-mage evil. Started with 9 dex and 2 points into melee and dodge. Then i started getting some spells.
i owned with pure mage no skills in fighting only magic and stats after i got over lvl 30 he kicked just about anyones ass oh the only person desintegrate doesnt work on is last boss =D
An ammo dump on every corner Ammo is not a problem as long as you have money - shops restock every 24 hours - so you shouldn't be running out anytime soon. Still - this is where beauty can come into it - as pretty gunslingers will be paying less for each bullet - and gunslingers with haggle will pay even less. There is no single UBER-skill in Arcanum. Not magick, not tech, not melee. That is why dabbling in a little of each is usually a good way to go. Sure you wan't a powerful mage, but even the most powerful mage has to dodge traps or arrows sometimes, so Dodge is NOT a waste of CPs...just build an interesting character but don't specialise too much unless you want a real challenge.
If your looking for a big laugh when you make your character, make him a half-ogre. But use a backround that reduces his int down to 2. Virgil's reaction is hilarious. Also nice how Virgil changes so dramaticly to good or evil depending on what path you choose.
AIDAN ur right the speech u get at the begining is truly hilarious......and for the most part everyones reaction to ogres is also interesting.....only problem i ever get is when i dont feel like reading all the non important dialogue, i accidently chose one that insults whoever called me some name.......this makes them attack me......even if its some classy well dressed chick..........still fun to bash her with big axe though
