Is dropping a single CP into Gambling and/or Haggling worthwhile when creating a character?

I wouldn't do that because to me such skills are useless 'cause they relate money, you can alwasys get more money there are many ways to make it. 2 skill points might be the points needed for that spell or tech..

Gambling ain't a really good skill, no. :

Haggling.....now, you want this pumped up to 3 ranks and expert level IF you can, especially if you're a mage...if not, apprentice level will do good for most anyone, especially early on, when you're scrapping for cash.

Look, you'll be selling stuff and buying stuff all the way through, why not get something out of it...

Unless you're a bit of a thief, then I HEARTILY recommand at least expert level in picklocks. All thieves should have picklocks chosen.

There are lots of bugs in the game that will get you more money. Here are what I and the other posters have found so far:

    1) Madame Toussaude's quest where you get to talk to this guy near the inn near the the train station. Keep talking to hmi about the quest even if you already finish it.
    2) H.T. Parnell's fake stillwater giant pelt. Sell Mr. Parnell the real pelt. Keep selling it to him although he already has it.
    3) Ruby Glen. After getting the ruby, continue talking to that person who gave you the quest then get the ruby from him again then sell it again. Unlimited money.

I'm sure there are lots of these in the game but that is what we've found so far.

In many of the "bars" there are people that will bet 500 that you can't guess the answer to their question. Just F7 before you talk to them and if you answer wrong F8 and try again. You get a different question but, if you answer you are up 500 coins quickly. - Edythe

I thought it was limited to 20 coins because of a bug or something?

    To answer the origianl question...
One point of Haggle or Gamble is probably not worth it, but pursuing one or both to mastery can be very interesting. Mastery allows you to acquire items that the shopkeeper is equipped with. If you glance at those items as you go along, you'll notice that some of the more interesting(and unique) items are already equipped on shopkeepers. also, there are rumored to be some different events that can happen when you master these skills...

Don't bother with either of those, just get pickpocket and you can always steal your money. Gotta love that save option hehe
