Well in arcanum 1, it was all about steam power... steam steam steam..

Shouldn't arcanum 2 have some other kind of revolutionary source of power, so great that every man in the land basks in awe of its radiant glow?

    Or something along those lines...

    Indeed. Things could be Spam-powered.

Or powered by the magnificence of the All-Knowing Ass.

    Or... ?

I don't know... It would be too big a jump to go directly to nuclear power... It would be more like Fallout, then, if everything else caught up. Maybe, Vendigroth used fusion to power it's machines, and now that it is back again, so is fusion power. The rest of Arcanum is in awe of it's power. Even the mages of Tulla, who are steadily loosing their power because of all the technology that Vendigroth is bringing back. They have only one choice: Destroy this new technology threat, and bring magick to bear over all of Arcanum! The battle would be won by Vendigroth if you were a techie, but Tulla would win if you were a mage. Neutral people can pick sides somewhere in their quests.

well, look at the genre of Arcanum: STEAMpunk, like in STEAM or STEAM engine.
So, if we want a Arcanum2, naturally it should have the same genre

The only power source jump that could be made (and it still would be huge) is a combustion engine. But in game it wouldn't be too different if but for the name.

But honestly wouldn't solar be better? And not half as offensive as the other 3 :D

Not solar. Even we NOW can't efficiently harness the power of the sun, why would someone in the 1800s of a game be able to? Maybe Vendigroth, but the jump of time would be too large, and too futuristic

Nope. Tulla wouldn't be that active, and even if it was, not that violent.

Right, but it would be interesting to see their strained relationship do to the differences in ideologies and the likelihood of mages trying to find Tulla ending up in Vendigroth and Techs ending up in Tulla when trying to go to Vendigroth (that is if Vendigroth tries to hide itself like Tulla did). And if you were Evil who knows the havoc you could unleash between them.

I know this is kind of an old topic, but I want my 2 cents worth.

That guy in one town said something about a cycle where at one point tech florishes and then magic drops and then the opposite happens, sort of a predator and prey relationship. And since tech was the most florishing side during arcanum 1 we should go the other way in arcanum 2 and make magic more powerful again.

BTW any step towards making Arcanum more futuristic such as FUSSION POWER is IMHO a bad idea since I like the victorian age technology as it is.

M@DE, maybe tech was the most politically powerful, but magic characters had all the easy ways out of everything. Magic was badly overpowered.

Wouldn't a new invention of magic fused with technology be interesting? making a way too powerful thing makes people try and take it, making an interesting storyline...

Would that be violating the basic premise of the game?

The problem with a new power source is that there really aren't many options which would fit with the style of Arcanum. I think there just ought to be new things built off the existing framework and have things go from there.

Some people believe fuel cell technology has been around since steam trains. And theres also all the things nikola tesla came up with. So they can use virtaully thousands of things. As for combustion engines, appearently the first was designed in 1680, fueled by gun powder. The first petrol powered one seems to have been made in 1858.

Vendigroth and Tulla can't fight each other, Tulla is in Vendigroth. Besides Vendigroth kicks Tulla's ass! When the mages begin to go out the tullan walls they'll find themselves surrounded by proton cannons aiming at Simeon tower! :x And if 2000 years ago Vendigroth lived with the rest of Arcanum, they could do so again, but it may be like travel to the future to cross the Gateway and find oneself in a city that is like 2000 years advanced. They could have fussion, or at least nuclear... and as in Arcanum vendigrothians are described like more pacific ones they wouldn't be the enemy.

Any sequel who tries to preserve the style of the original is setting itself up for failure.
I'd say to try out a different historical era in Arcanum and show us what their version of the Nuclear Age was like or something.
