I've just realised what reminds me of Quake 3 the most in UT2003 - the cartoon-like floating items sitting on little spawn pads and rotating! I think they should have simply updated the old versions and left them on the floor. They were much more gritty, realistic and less 'gamey'. Does that make any sense? :-?

Yeah, I noticed that, too. The new cartoony look of the items is at odds with the rest of the gritty setting. It's straight out of Quake, as is the way they hover on their little pads.

What servers to you play on and what name do you use? Maybe we should meet up and have a frag party.

You mean actually play online against real people?!?!

I only play at home on my LAN. The online world is not for me - too competitive and frustrating with lag, disconnects, cheats, 13 year old 'doods' from Idaho and God knows where...

I had enough of all that with 18 months on Ultima Online.

Now's the time to play online. The game is too new to have had loads of cheats propogate, and there are so many servers that lag is minimal (if you're on broadband). Nothing you can do about the doods from Idaho, though. There'll always be doods in Idaho.

    True.

I'll be getting broadband linked up to my machines in the next couple of weeks (I hope), so maybe I'll give it a try then.

^^^ Big, month long old bump cause I've got the game ^^^

Well, what can I say? I'm very impressed with UT2K3. But then again, this is the first game of this type I've ever played. Never played Quake 1-3, never played UT, nothing. The closest I've come is to other FPS games that had mission style single player. I've never played against bots or simulated human players, and I have to say that I'm enjoying it alot so far. I've just qualified to start on the death match levels and recently played my first team death match. I'm having a lot of fun with the game and would like to try playing online with some of you guys sooner or later; Probably Sheriff (if he's still playing), since he's the only one here who seems to like the game.

The graphics are extremely nice @ 1280x1024 with the Quincunt anti-aliasing and the high details flicked on. I cracked up when, in the video options menu, I selected high details on one option or another and the narrator of the game broke in with "HOLY SHEEEIT!".

Overall, I'm enjoying the atmosphere and feel of the game. I came into it not knowing what to expect, being new to the genre. I was pleasantly surprised by the game show atmosphere and the little touches, like my character yelling "HEADSHOT!" when I snipe someone in the face with the lightning gun.

I'm still getting used to the controls and all, but still, this game is keeping motivated enough to actually want to play better. That's saying something considering how burned out on gaming I've been lately.
