Worth blowing a fate point over, ya think?

Edited to add: I tried to put the dress on Virgil, but it wouldn't fit. He must have big shoulders or something...

What else do you use them for? Goodies, weapons, & to avoid killing important people who get realy pissed at you.

BTW, you must have some lockpicking skill to use a fate point on lockpicking. Or were you going to force a good reactiom from the priest?

Nah, I have 0 Pick Locks skill. I used oneFate Point to unlock the barrel with the book for Ogdin in Ashbury just to see what would happen. I have two Fate Points left. Seeing as how I'm not planning on killing Bates and I never seem to hear of the orcs striking, I figure those two will have to last me the rest of the game, hence my asking if it's worth it. Since I'm not doing Thieves Underground quests on this character, I'm not sure.

Oh yeah, what do I need to up to get storekeepers to talk to my 70MA character? Is it Persuasion or Charisma?

Past 65% MA, the quality smiths, Dwarven smiths, inventor supply shops, & gunsmiths won't deal with you. Rural blacksmiths will, also herbalists who are often very respectful.

Back to the topic at hand... ;)

I ended up using a fate point on forcing a good reaction from Magnus. Still doesn't explain why his reaction was going down... he would complain when I gave the beggars some coin! Go figure. Virgil is now Neutral, but that's after I rubbed his ego a bit.

I still don't have a dress that has reaction benefits, but I'm not too concerned about that. Will just remember when I play again to get the stoopid dress in the beginning.

I found out that there's another of those dresses at Razor's Pointe. So I switched back and forth. I was well-dressed and ladylike as I Disintigrated stuff left and right.

Even if someone has just been rude to you, the fact that you are presently are engaged in killing them is no excuse for unladylike behaviour.

There was a major bug in follower reaction pre-patch. If you patch your game, their reaction might not drop any more.

Some characters get upset when you do something good or something evil. Magnus gets upset when you do anything evil, including attacking something that's good.

All followers, AFAIK, can be talked to if their reaction drops below 20 or so. Most require an item, usually useless for other purposes. The ones I can remember are Sogg and wine, Magnus and dwarven snuff, Vollinger and absinthe, and that mage and earl gray tea. The only one I can think of that isn't purchased at a general store is absinthe, which can be obtained at a Thieves' Underground store. If you try to raise the reaction of a follower whose item you don't have, they'll get more upset at you (-5 reaction IIRC). Virgil doesn't require an item to be made happy again, and if you have twenty charisma you can cheer your followers up without items.

Followers also improve their reaction greatly if you resurrect them -- I let Magnus die whenever he got mad, then used one of those Tech Resurrect Potions.

I found that pickpocketing the gypsy lady in shrouded hills lowers my good counter and when it gets too low it lowers magnus reaction bigtime.
or it may just be the the pickpocketing itself that pisses him off. I tried having him wait while I pickpocket, but his reaction was already too low and he wouldn't rejoin. Got him back in tarant and raised his reaction some with the schuyler and sons quest. Hoping the black mines will raise it some more. If I buy dwarven snuff and give it to him and talk to him will it raise his reaction and can I do that repeatedly?

Oh, that would be too easy.
You can only offer bribes through conversation when the reaction is only too low, assuming it hasn't already passed through into the stage where the follower wants to chop you into pieces, and only enough to make them just over the limit of being really reluctant to follow you around.
You want it easy. Next you'll be asking for a webpage where you can simply tick a number of boxes to note what quests you're doing, and see an outcome. :p

I have since found it is easiest to put the poison armor on virgil, let him die and ressurect him. (nice reaction improvement). Since Magnus can't wear that stuff I just let him fight naked til he dies and ressurect. I've got a million of those scrolls. Been throwing 'em away.

    Some things...

    Dresses won't fit on men.

The Aptitude with shopkeepers works reverse (65% tech aptitude and up makes magical shopkeepers refusing to speak to you)

And a question... How do I give stuff to my followers so they get more reaction... I got 70 to all followers, except Franklyn Payne, I got 122 with him...
