Why? Why? Why? Why have "they" done this to the Internet? I like the forum, I love the game, but WHY, can anyone tell me, must we bear all these advertisement pop-ups? Get real! We're Role-Playing Computer Adicts! We're not interested in Casinos, James Bond Trivia, What Indiana Jones is afraid of, or Vacation plans. We don't go on vacation! We spend our vacation happyly glued to a monitor screen playing Arcanum and dreaming of Arcanum II! Webmasters: Must you really do this? Let's do some research with the users: Please answer the poll:
:minigun:Unless you and/or the rest of the people who visit this site are willing to come out of pocket to cover any expenses the masters may have regarding this site I wouldn't expect the pop-ups to disappear anytime soon. Truthfully, are you really that naive?
This site gets hosted for free. In order to recoup costs, the hosts put popups on the pages. I don't find them nearly as annoying now as I did when popups really started showing up everywhere. Now I just close them. There's freeware popup stoppers available out there if you don't want to ALT+F4 them.
Dear Piff133, a word of advice. When you feel the need to respond to a post, yet realize that someone else has already written what you want to say, there's no need for the post. I tell you this because the moderator's on this site do not approve of spam, and will penalize you for doing it. (see: banished to the void) I'm not sure what their criteria is, and I do not think to speak for them, but I think aforementioned posting falls in the realm of spam. :wavey:
Honestly, if the advertisement were a little smaller and part of the page, I wouldn't mind that. It's when it's a pop-up (intrusive and an unwanted window to close) that it's just too much. The website can find advertising without having to code in this kind of stuff, and advertisers are going to have to learn that they're not winning a whole lot of enthusiasm for their products by throwing themselves in your way. It's like flying in front of a car on the Information Superhighway -- I hate always having to wash those guts off my windshield. My $0.02, anyway. S
Darkwalker, maybe he was actually trying to agree with you? No need to get all protective and jealous. Jinxed isn't some power-hungry megalomaniac intent on filling up the VOF. (by the way you should really check out some of the entries there - they're really funny). I do agree that this post is in the wrong forum though. And I won't answer the question as Darkwalker has said pretty much what everyone knows. Menkhur, nothing is truly free on the Net.
OK OK OK I rest my case. I stand corrected. Can this post be eliminated, then? How does one humbly request for a post to be deleted from the forum? Thanks for the opinions, though... I still think that a better NON-INTRUSIVE and more CONTEXT-ORIENTED form of advertisement makes more sense.
Suggestions for alternative pop-ups: Computer hardware and games especially rpg's, Pop up stopping software, free money.
