My Dark Helm likes to reduce my alignment by 20 each time I put it on--and doesn't give me the alignment back if I take it off. If I replace it twice more Raven will leave me. Sheesh.
Any way to fix this that anyone knows of?

nope... that's why it's a hexed item... I always use it... but then again, I'm always an evil mage

just use another helmet if you don't want to be evil

    So......

..in other words, buy it, put it on, remove it, rinse, repeat until you have 100 magic alignment, sell it, buy something else?
Thats what I am going to do, at least.

well I wouldn't sell it immediately... you see you can also put items on other people... if you're evil and you see this cool follower you really really want... but he's too 'good' for you... just put the helmet on 'em and watch his allignment drop... I do believe you have to steal it off, but I'm not sure

Anyway, the thing IS bugged. Don't tell me I am supposed to remove and replace the helmet automatically when I buy a spell. 'Cause when I do, my alignment drops 20 and magic aptitude skyrockets.

The follower thing is worth trying sometime though.

A question though: can my magic alignment drop unless I buy tech skills? That would be a good reason to keep that helmet......

    *DARK* helmet - get it?

The dark helmet is SUPPOSED to make you evil, y'see?

Raven likes good people, so of course, if you keep putting the helmet on, she won't like you.

You should decide whether you wish to play the game through as evil or good, it determines how the entire game plays itself out.

no you're not supposed to remove it when you buy spells... you can just keep it on (how did you mean that question??)
but.. no.. actually it isn't a bug... they did it on purpose (IIRC)

buying tech skills won't increase your alignment if that's what you mean... with or without the helmet

    Regarding Raven leaving you...

If you want to keep her, then use the helmet on her a few times until she's evil too. It's been a long time since I played, but it would make sense for this to work.

I think she bases her "evilness" reaction compared to how evil she is. So if you're really really evil, and she's not, she'll leave. But if she's completely evil herself, she won't see you in such a bad light.

Of course, if you've got 1000 gold to spare, then you can stand next to the beggar in Stillwater, wear the helm and then donate until your alignment is back. Wear the helm and donate. Repeat until you are 100% magickal and still 100% good.

what I meant a few posts back about removing the helmet when I buy spells is that the game seems to treat it that way.
That is, when I use a point to buy a spell, my alignment drops as if had removed and replaced the helm. I *guess* that could be a "feature", but if so, I dont see the point.
    Anyway, problem solved. Helmet ditched.

Hmm, reminds me of a bugged helm i found, if you didn't identify it, it gave you +15 AC and sme DR, but without the Perception penalty. I think that might have been fixed by the patch, though. (Darn)
