Bates' house (spoiler?)

Hi.

I heard that we can buy Bates' house. So after talking to him, I killed him and his guards, but where do I find the money? I crashed some of the boxes, because lockpicking did not work, and found some stuff but nothing really interesting. Are the 50 000 in the box in the south east room, second floor? And how can I break it?

it's really hard to get enough money, just pickpocket the guy for the key.

Only get it once you kill Bates.

 

I killed Bates. But I thought there was 50 000 money in his house, but apparently I was wrong.
So now I have to find 50 000, which I won't be able to until much late in the game. Well, I guess I'll still be without house for a long time.

 

Extremely easy to get money if you're a techie, just selling items you make. Otherwise, invest in lockpick and sneak into stores during the night and steal their stuff, then sell it back to them. Sleep and repeat.

 

Whom do you have to talk to to get this option?

 

To a guy near the animal museum (sorry for my lame english, my version of the game is french). Well, that's what they say in the quests walktghrough I read.

 

Don't know - never killed bates....

 

Anyone know where Bates goes if you nick his journal without killing him (really hard). I did it with just lvl 2 prowling, heres how.

I found that place where the 2 guards patro lup and down near the door, I place apocket watch on the end of the room (stair side), then I waited for 1 guard to go get whilst I found picklocked the door as the other guard couldn't see me.

What good is his house anyway? What purpose does it really serve? Just a place to sleep?

Anyway, you can easily get cash by pickpocketing Ritezze and stealing the key (if u save first, u can sometimes do it without any skill if u do it from the back) and then steal the money from his chest, leave his store, sleep a day, and then go back and take the money from the chest again. NOTE: if you try to buy or sell anything, the money will disappear from the chest until you sleep for a day!

Yo, anyone who does buy the house, tell me what good it is. Sounds useless to me :-?

 

If you don't want to have to nick bates diary but still need it then you could buy his house.

 

An easiter way to get his diary: wait until he goes to sleep and when he opens his door go in with him(also effective on shopkeepers). I think the house raises the residents of Tarant's reaction to you. Which is worthless as it only raises it 5 points and handing in Bates' diary in lowers their reaction by 10 points.

 

Buying the house is totally useless, of course, but it's just funny. You feel proud when you realize this huge mansion in Tarant is yours, I guess.

 

You don't have to hand the book in, just read it. Also for some reason Bates doesn't go to sleep.

 

Erhm, so how do you get the house? I still don't get it. Do you kill Bates, Grab his Diary then talk to the guy in the museum? (H.T. Parnells I take it)

 

No not HT Partnells, go out of the house, across to where the hall of records is, keep going across until you find a guy who wasn't there before.

 

The good things about owning Bate's mansion are...
Yes, you can sleep there for free...
Storage chests that will accomodate all the things you have acquired, and be able to sort them into catagories....
Recognition of being the owner of the mansion....
A place to spend some of the cash you have acquired....
A safe haven to save, and contemplate your next move...


The guy you buy the mansion from after offing Bates is standing at the front of the Zoological Society, right next to the subway shuttle for the University. 8)
