Etalis:Actually, it is somewhat relevant. We are speaking of soccer, we were also speaking of Korea and I mentioned most Koreans are actually rooting for the Turks, therefore, it is relevant. You couldn't see relevance if it bit you in the ass and the scurried away to rape your parents.

What about my earlier post? Is there really not a single person that wants to bitch/praise her/his team.

Looking back to '98 I'll praise the U.S., talk about a turnaround. I am rooting for them not b/c I am American, but b/c they are such underdogs. But lest face Friedel is god. Without him the U.S would have lost every game. Bet he'll be seeing a pay raise in the English premire league next season.

Yes, English footballers are notoriously underpaid. He's probably on only about £10000 a week.

I'm kind of rooting for the USA (after England) too. Mainly because they're the underdog, too. The only thing that bothers me about it is if USA win, I'm pretty sure I can imagine what the already nationalistic populace will say.

Eg. "It's not even our sport and we can still we the World Cup."

I think there a lot more people who like soccer in the U.S. than people think. The main reason its not popular is that americans don't want to be the weak kid on the block. If the U.S. does well a lot of people will come out of the woodwork. Well it looks like I will be late to work again on Fri, we just can't let jerry win!

I went home at lunch to try catching mos to of the South Korea match.

I was gutted to find them 1-0 down, but kept hoping their pressure would pay off. When they qualified, I was back at work so missed it, but heard a huge cheer from our business park. Go South Korea!

So far they have knocked Portugal and Italy out. If they beat Spain in their next match, they'll have cleared most of the north coast of the Mediterranean.

I don't see korea beating Spain. This is the cup where weird shit happens. Spain has always done poorly at the Cup despite having some of the best league teams in Europe. My crystal ball says 2-0 Spain.

Who makes up the World Cup teams?

Are they like All-Star teams composed of the best players from each country's own leagues? And once the World Cup is over, the players all go back to their respective teams and compete against each other?

My trademarked 2002 official tournament crystal ball says Made in Seoul. That's gotta be an omen.

Each country has an international team, kind of like ... er ... the Olympic squad. The team has a designated manager (appointed by the football authorities in the given country). The manager chooses players from any footballer born in the country. It doesn't matter what league they play in. After the tournament is over, they go and have a rest until the start of their national season, or the country's next international fixture. The World Cup is not the only international tournament.

Korea will lose. 3-1. I'm sure of it. Korea only beat Italy becuse of a lucky shot and a bullshit clal or two. Now, with Spain, Korea is going down.

Turkey will also lose to Senegal, 2-0.

    The Psychic has spoken....

Quote Korea beat Italy by a lucky shot .....by any chance Vyaas did you see the game Or only edited highlights....if the latter BE QUIET...If you did see it (I saw it Live) explain why having 70% of the possession is lucky .Why having more shots on goal than Italy is lucky...why missing a penalty is lucky...why scoring 2 goals not one is lucky .. why outplaying Italy is lucky....The only area they lost at was Ham-acting that prize went 100% to italy which is why they deserved to lose and Totti deserved his red card

S korea did out play italy, they were dog tired by the end. then 2nd yellow on totti however, was undeserved. It was the same contact that wasn't even being called for a foul in other cases. I thought it was poor judgment to red card a guy in single elimination cup play for the ammount of contact that resulted from the play.

The second yellow card was for the over acting which is the bane of Italian football ....When Nakata played at Roma the press there criticized him for NOT ACTING in the penalty area...The tackle in the penalty area was legitimate the response worthy of Hamlet was not HE DESERVED WHAT HE GOT

    Welcome to the forum Kaigun.

I thought the ref in the South Korea game was amazing. I was disgusted at the Italians' rampant shirt pulling, and predicted quite early on that they'd be down to 10 men before the end. I'm glad they lost. South Korea have played cleanly and courageously. It's nice to see more sportsmanship and less gamesmanship for a change.
