ok im in the black mountains , and i didnt expect their to be dangerous creatures. ya know the average rat or wolf, but i encountered a group of about 6 kites , then after i killed the last kite using a harm spell (although sogg and virgil were already dead) wich exploded it sending body parts everywhere, i encountered a stone throw spell wich hit me and caused damage, and then appearing on my screen a fearsome oregollum wich i used 1 harm on and a couple swings from my sword. the harm (plus sword knocked him down about 1/3). i tried to get in one last harm but i was killed. so i wanted to know what spells and weapons i should use against it. i have a sword of air wich causes a maximum damage of 20 and has speed of 17 , and chain mail armor , with a ac of i think 12 , and a dr of 23. im level 10 and i have twelve wilpower to get a fireflash but no character points yet. thanx for your help
Maybe you should make a little more experience before you go through there, anyway, i used harm (i could cast three spells in my turn) and let Sogg do the rest, he had a nice axe. This is hard, so good luck.
I assume you're using real-time combat? You may want to use turn-based combat in big fights. The follower AI isn't very smart... sometimes they won't heal themselves even when they're near death with potions/salves/spells available. In turn-based combat it's impossible for Sogg and Virgil to die under the hands of kites. For the Ore golem and pals, since you're a mage, Disintegrate is the best. Or a few Fireflash will do. But you'll need a lot of mana potions. If you want to use melee attacks, you'll need some good weapons - either high magick ones or really really high tech ones. Thrown weapons won't be damaged, but you probably won't have any powerful ones at that stage - except grenades/motolov cocktails.
Set it to turn-based, DON'T initiate combat, just cast Harm on the bastard. He'll start chasing you, run away for a while and use Harm a couple more times. If you run out of space to run away in, take the stairs up, rest, repeat.
hey legolas, i'm not flaming ya (how could I when you have my favourite character - not from the movie - from LoTR's name?) but don't you think you should try to play the game at least once through before you ask for spoilers? you've been asking for a LOT of tips, doesn't it spoil the fun for you?
ohh i know im posting 2 in a row , but i wanted to tell ya my groups weapons : sogg has an axe i bought from loyd in shrouded hills , and virgil has an unidentified axe from my journeys in p. schuyler and sons. i wondered if i should switch weapons or what. or if i should seek out new weapons for them

okay never mind for now... i killed the ore gollums with like usually 3 harm spells or 2-3 fireflashes . im now level 15 and i was gonna invest in a couple level 1-5 spells but i decided to look ahead so i boosted my willpower to 15 so i can get level 10 spells. i love the fireflash . okay im right at the stairway now of the room with like 5 or 6 engines or something and the thieves dead. i killed most of the oregollums (i think one i missed) and i stoped their at the stairs . i sorta overestimated the oregollums their not that hard when ya use a few good spells. :0 the wolves at the bottom of the steps killed virgil even though like 2 slashes would kill them. so i just stoped their for the day , and im excited to go farther.
Before you make your way further into the mountain, i'd suggest going to Ashbury (by train from Tarant), and finding Dog.
