Hi everybody. This is my very first post in this forum, but I am not an Arcanum newbie. I preordered the game and got it as soon as it was available in Germany. Alas, after a week or so of intense gaming i became increasingly frustrated due to some bugs and flaws ( and because I couldn't find Gorgoth Pass because of wrong coordinates ) and stopped playing. For months I forgot about the game until about one month ago. I didn't know which game to play next and considered giving Arcanum a second try. So ,for the first time after six months, I revisited the official website and Terra Arcanum and the forums. I was delighted ( and a bit surprised ) to see that the community is still thriving and that the game has even won some Best-RPG-of-the-Year-Awards. My interest was renewed and now I have finished the game twice. Well, now I have some questions. (1) What is the matter with Leahbo? It is supposed to be a rustic halfling settlement, located somewhere in the northeastern part of the Morbihan Plains. It is mentioned at least twice on the official homepage - once in the Tarantian and once in the introduction to the geography of Arcanum. It is also mentioned in the game: when you ask a halfling about Vendigroth he'll often reply that it is somewhere north of Leahbo. And last but not least one of the areas of the Arcanum module is called Leahbo. So Leahbo actually exists and can not be merely the halfling name for Ashbury, which would have solved the problem. But where is it? Though what puzzles me even more is that nobody in this or the official forum even mentioned the name Leahbo once ( or maybe Search doesn't work properly ). So my next question is: (2) Why am I the only one who is wondering about this issue? (3) One of the quests for the Thieves Underground of Tarant involves acquiring a lucky medallion from one of the vagrants at Poone's Flophouse. I never found the vagrant or the amulet. Where do I have to look? (4) If you ask Caleb Malloy where one could stay in the Boil he mentions a madam who offers trustworthy people a place to rest. Unfortunately her house is empty. Where is she? (5) William Thorndop ( master of firearms ) mentions a Halcyon monastary near Roseborough. What do you know about it? (6) What is the matter with the always sleeping innkeeper in the backrooms of the Roseborough Inn? The following questions are not so much about gameplay as background. (7) Why does Bingham Schulefest, keeper of the Caladonian graveyard, wear a medallion of the Molochian Hand? Is he a member? (8) The strange undead dwarves at P. Schuyler and Sons: What is their relation to the other dwarven clans and why are they misshpen? (9) The people of Vendigroth: What was their race? I have found no answer to that in the game but the dialogue with Nasrudin on Thanatos seems to have a bug, so maybe he'd normally tell you. (10) The "Hellgate" near Liam's Workshop: Is this really another, magickal way from the Void to Arcanum? Where is it's counterpart? Who crated it, for what purpose and how? I look forward to your answers, guesses and theories.
3. Check at night in the flophouse. It is on the sleeping person toward the front of the flophouse, I think. You have to pick pocket the yellow dot signifying sleeping person. 4. Ignore the refernce to the woman. You can sleep there for free. 8. The characters hint that they are outcasts. It implies that they were outcast because they were inept and misshapen. Mutants or inbreeding, I'm not sure. Sorry i don't know the other answers.
Many Thanks Thanks for the welcome and for answering some of the questions. It seems I've really not paid enough attention to what's going on at night. For example, until today I've alsways wondered about that darke magick shoppe in Tarant with the invisible shop clerk. I thought it is a bug like the Thrayne-Iron-Heart-sleeping-bug. And since I've always robbed the "magic mall" very early in the game, I also killed the supposedly useles shop clerk very early. Which prevented me from noticing his unique working schedule. Anyway, I hope someone can answer the remaining questions, especially the first two.
wow, those three mages in northern Tarant always manage to take me down in the early and mid game, so you must have a trick to beat them . Never heard of the halfling village, and untill now no-one bothered to reply about it too . My guess is that if it is anything like the Shire, they don't want to be disturbed and just live their lives in peace. Remember: It even took Great Wizards (Sauron, Saruman) pretty long to actually notice the halfling village.
1) Here is a entry from Arcanum Spoilers Location List Old Leahbo A bridge leading into the Vendigroth Wastes. 0455 0754 Its description is identical to the description for "Gateway to the Wastes." The place is not there in the game. I do not know how Arcanum Spoilers got those data. 6) There are a number of NPCs that are always asleep. Apparently, Troika forgot to give them waypoints. 8) Dwarves use to live over ground on some plains. Somehow they were driven to mines on mountains. (the Manual says this) So I think PS&S dwarves might be those ancient dwarves who lived on plains. [ This Message was edited by: VoidVector on 2002-03-31 21:40 ]
5. I assume he's confused and means the monastary near Tarant. It's tiny and you can visit it on the Gods quest or the Stringy Pete quest... arg what's it called again 6. Some people are just lazy i guess. 7. I guess so. Why else would he have it? 8. They're misshappen because they're dead protodwarves. They weren't pretty to begin with (think Neanderthal) and they've been rotting for millenia. You expected supermodels? 9. Humans. Just read their papers - all sorts of anti-elf crap, and dwarves hate the desert. 10. a) No it's just there for foreshadowing. b) Doesn't exist c) Liam I suppose, out of curiosity
