why do firearms suck?

serrated chackram does about the same damage as repeating rifle. it takes a hand cannon to beat the damage of serrated chackram but even then it doesn't work on many creatures.

on one character, i have master firearms and expert throwing (both at 5 cp). with firearms, i get about 110% max at point blank range. with throwing i get about 150% at max range.

seems the order of power is this:

1.drain (ridiculously ahead of all the others)
2.melee
3.[bow] never tried bow, but i'm placing it here by extimation.
4.throwing
5.firearms

out of all, the firearms is both the worst and the one that requires most cp to be half useful.

will firarms ever equal the damage of the other weapons?

i want to know why my level 16 drain mage owns the game while my level 32 tech/firearms still sturggles.

I already do. You don't have to tell me that. To let you know by the time anyone reaches 25 years of age, I think they are old.

Obviously, Piter, you have not come across Droch's Warbringer. Now that is a seriously kick ass firearm. Highest physical damage of all guns, fast speed, one bullet per shot, one handed, and also does 10 electrical damage. Too bad you get it so late in the game...

Why do firearms suck....

In a word or two, they don't! Elephant rifle has been getting bad press, and I don't know why. I used one to clear Gorgoth's Pass by myself--NO followers. I was only level 22, firearms skill 5, Expert. Only once did any creature get close enough to put a finger on me, and that was a stone monkey that closed while I was putting the Big Chop on an ore golem. Did about 5 points of damage before its head disappeared. Called head shots at close range rarely miss and get results. I usually carry a Looking Glass rifle and keep the ele-gun in a hot key for instant access. If you work through an area slowly and use the advantage your high perception gives you, you can deal heavy damage to most creatures before they even know where you are. I have killed wargunns who just wandered around aimlessly as I hit them again and again--they couldn't find me.

 

Guns are definitely weaker than Melee/Magick but they let me have the most fun with the game. All the interesting schematics I can get and assemble are worth not being "unstoppable force at lvl 20). Also if you want your guns to do more damage use Otto Krupp's Gun Mod.

 

Machine Gun!

Trust me on this, firearms do NOT suck. But, they only become truly useful at high levels.

1. Tesla Gun - this damn thing does 10-80 points of ELECTRICAL damage, ignoring armor!

2. Mechanized Gun - Probably the fastest weapon in the game. This thing eats bullets like popcorn, but I've cleared out a room of Fire Elementals with it by myself! And I am an apprentice with only 3 points in Firearms!

 

some guy (the aeroplane place) offered to make me a mechanised gun if i brought a clarington rifle and a loading mechanism.

i have the clarington rifle and auto loading mechenism in my inventory (is this the same thing as loading mechanism?) and now i can't trigger any dialoge to make the weapon.

if 'loading mechanism' is different from 'auto loading mechanism' then where can i find the former.

also, on a side note, i've been trying to make a goggled helmet, but i can't find helmet of vision anywhere (i've made it as far as caladon).

firearms still suck compared to other weapons based on bang-for-buck, but i'd say firearms is the most balanced weapon in the game.

after all, who would bother learning all those schematics, carrying around bullets and heavy weapons, running everywhere (cause you can't teleport and you can't use train with dog, and ships are limited) when all you need is throwing skill and aerial decap. heh. good thing i also trained throwing master on my techie.
