Courtesy of Dictionary.com and my brother:

entropy: Symbol S For a closed thermodynamic system, a quantitative measure of the amount of thermal energy not available to do work; A measure of the disorder or randomness in a closed system; The tendency for all matter and energy in the universe to evolve toward a state of inert uniformity.

The energy still exists, just in a different state.

My god - it explains my whole work ethic. I'm just doing what comes naturally and evolving to a state of inert uniformity.

just a side note, another thing that is impossible is standing at the end of a naturally occuring rainbow. please continue the discussion.

    Yeah, so, is impossibility impossible?
    heh

Anways, the only time any of this would have any relevence would be if the situation occurs, which it won't. So until then it's all in our imaginations so the laws of the universe bon't enter into it. So Power to Create knowledge it is!

As for impossibilty, is timetravel possible? If it is, and people will have come back to this time, why have we not seen them? It must be impossible to return to the past when you where never having been there...

and don't get me started on the impossibility of true perfection!!

Logically, you cannot declare something impossible.

I was thinking about this last night and something came to me. For something to be knowledge, someone has to know it first, right? So the argument that having Absolute Knowledge will give you all the secrects of the universe is in my book, incorrect. You will just be privy to all known things. You won't know if it is impossible to do until you try it for yourself.

but what if there are aliens who can see the future? would absolute knowledge include everything they know, as well?

well, if they can see the future, they can see us discovering them, so our futures would be intwined, so yeah, they could see our future, and their future...

I disagree. Having Absolute Knowledge will make you an authority (knowledge wise) on all matters. Just how much knowledge you actually get is debatable .

no slagger that is not an option, it's one or the other, choose please.

interesting theory rose, what if our races never met would they still be able to see us?, also how do you define "see", is it some inate ability or some type of technological device that lets them look in the future, and how would they know just where in the universe to look.

it'd be like the spice dreams in dune... you could see all possible futures for all possible creatures... you would have to choose the threads that you wanted to follow... i used to imagine having those dreams... that would be so cool...

Well, mrnobodie, I read somewhere that if there was intelligent life out there, due to the amount of lights on Earth, they would be able to know that intelligent life existed on the planet.

Well then, I would like to point out that you just declared something impossible. You say it is impossible to call something impossible, so you have contradicted yourself.

Also, it seems we need to define absolute knowledge. Are we talking "all the knowledge there is", or "all the knowledge there can be"?

You can always say that impossibility doesn't exist, and bypass the argument, but where's the fun in that?

I say nothing's possible, you're just delusional and the world's full of good actors who like to make fun of you.

yes i agree it would be VERY easy to tell there is intelligent/sentient life here but that's assuming that "someone" is actually looking for other life and they may not even be in our galaxy and if they are, are they looking at the right time to see "us", or has the light/radio signals from earth reached them while there's still life here.

here's a thought- if the universe is infinately "large" does that make us infinately "small".
