Help, please. I'm new to the game and I might have just spent WAY to much on an item called "Gun Smithy Manuals." I assumed I'd be able to use it to train, but I can't seem to use it to train. Any help on what it is and what it does would be great.

alright, the game manual doesn't cover this, but then, it doesn't cover alot of things. the manuals only work as long as they're in you're inventory. you'll need several of them to build anything particularly useful. you put the manuals in your inventory, the materials in your inventory, then go to your schematic screen... if you have enough manuals, you can make whatever... most of us store the manuals someplace secure (the dressers inside inns come to minds) until we need them...

by the by, normally someone called vlad would welcome you to the forum... however, he's out of town, so as his special assistant (think vana white  ) i will do this for him...

"Welcome to the Forum Magentafly!" :wavey:

EDIT: ten minutes! damn, i'm good...

Just to clarifuy. You use the manuals for found schematics, not learned schematics.

    manual use

So I got that manuals are used for found schematics but does each have a value with it? Example, I need a gunsmithy 40 to make something. How many manuals do I need? 1, 2, more? Do they even combine if I have more than 1? Do I have to have some levels in that tech area to use manuals or if I have no gunsmithing can I just buy enough manuals to build an elephant gun? If I do have some gunsmithing does it combine with the manuals so that I don't need as many.

Sorry for the barrage of questions but one of my characters also bought a bunch of manuals before I understood what they did and I want to get some use out of them.

    Thanks

manuals add points into the relevant skill ie: gunsmithy, by how much int you have times how many manuals ie: int 10, 4 manuals = 10 * 4 = 40 points

I'll take a swing at this. The amount the tech manuals increase your ability is directly proportional to your intelligence. If you have a high INT, then you will need only a few books. If it is real low, just spend the money on a good sword(he he he kidding)

    Example

You want to build something, like pyro axe. It requires a skill of 80 in smithy (i think I'm not sure but it doesn't matter its just a number) You have the ingrediants in your inventory. Your INT is 10. You have 0 points in the feild of smithing. That means you would need 8 books to build this item

    # of books X INT = skill increase
    8 X 10 = 80

If you already have some smithy skill, say level 2 or 20 skill. Then you would only need 6 books

skill needed for schematic - current skill level = amount of skill needed from books

    80 - 20 = 60 or 6 books

You can also drink a potion of INT or the tech equivalent and increase your INT, thus increasing the effectivness of the books.

I am a level 45 Maage with 100 Magik AP. I build stuff for my dwarfs all the time. I got a lot of books. I store the books in the rat infested wharehouse in Tarant. Hope this explains it.
